Description
To perform selected nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse and general supervision of the Director of Nursing to patients admitted to the facility.
Qualifications:
Education: Must have graduated with High School Degree and have successfully graduated from a technical or vocational training diploma in Practical Nursing.
Experience: Minimum of one-year experience in a mental health related setting. Psychiatric inpatient facility experience is preferred.
Licensure: Must maintain an active and unrestricted practical nurse license within the designated state.
Additional Requirements: Successful completion of BLS and Handle with Care training within 1 week of employment, and prior to assisting in restraining procedures.
Standards of Performance:
- Provides skilled nursing care to patients as directed by the registered nurse and physician’s plan of care in accordance with hospital policy.
- Promotes and maintains patient health through teaching and appropriate rehabilitative measures under the guidance of the registered nurse.
- Dispenses medication under the direction of the registered nurse and according to physician orders.
- Assists patients in learning appropriate self-care techniques.
- Helps to achieve and maintain continuity of patient care by assisting in planning and exchanging information with other health professionals.
- Keeps abreast of changes and trends affecting nursing care and licensed nurse functions.
- Attends patient care conferences, meets with performance improvement reviewer weekly and communicates regularly with the registered nurse.
- Communicates current health status and needs of patients to appropriate health professionals.
- Organize and coordinate special programs
- Stays abreast of Federal, State, and local laws and regulations complying with infection control and employee health standards
- Active participant in nursing performance improvement program
- Advises Director of Nursing/Administrator of any risk management activities in order to reduce or eliminate patient/staff/visitor injuries, illnesses, death, and/or financial loss.
- Ensure security and proper handling of classified information.
