Simulation Engineer I

ATC Automation is seeking a full-time Simulation Engineer I to join our team in Cookeville, Tennessee. In this role, you will help develop industrial digital twins and virtual commissioning solutions that enable our engineering teams and customers to design, test, and optimize advanced automated manufacturing systems before physical equipment is built.

ATC Automation specializes in the design and build of custom automated assembly and test equipment. Our engineers work collaboratively across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and simulation disciplines to deliver innovative automation solutions that meet customer requirements while maintaining high standards for quality, performance, and schedule.

Our simulation team is a small, highly collaborative group of engineers pushing the boundaries of industrial digital twins and virtual commissioning. How You'll Contribute

• Utilize cutting-edge simulation software such as Emulate3D to transform static CAD assemblies into realistic kinematic models with real-time physics.
• Write custom C# scripts to expand model capabilities, simulate complex physical behaviors, and automate engineering workflows.
• Work directly with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to debug, troubleshoot, and validate PLC and robot programming within virtual environments.
• Develop full digital twins to optimize machine throughput, reduce physical commissioning timelines, and enhance operator safety.
• Collaborate across the organization throughout all stages of a project, from initial concept through commissioning and service in the field.
• Explore emerging technologies and simulation techniques to continuously improve machine performance and customer experience.
• Apply strong engineering fundamentals, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills to complex, open-ended technical challenges.
• Learn and apply new software platforms, programming languages, and engineering tools as project requirements evolve.

Basic Requirements

We welcome candidates from a variety of quantitative academic backgrounds. If you bring strong engineering fundamentals, analytical ability, and a drive to solve problems, we will train you on our specific tools and workflows.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Robotics, or a related technical discipline.
• Solid foundation in physics, mathematics, logic, and programming.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn new technical concepts, software platforms, and programming languages.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of assignments and work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Robotics, or a related discipline.
• Experience with or exposure to simulation software such as Emulate3D, Process Simulate, or Visual Components.
• Experience writing scripts or software in C#, Python, C++, Java, or similar programming languages.
• Familiarity with 3D solid modeling software such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
• Exposure to real-time 3D platforms, game engines, or graphics tools such as Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, NVIDIA Omniverse, or Blender.
• Basic exposure to industrial automation, PLCs, or robotics.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment in any role.
