Join our team as a Senior Charge RN and oversee the daily operations of an acute care nursing unit (Cardiac and Neuro) while working three 12-hour night shifts (6 PM - 6:30 AM) plus 4 hours of dedicated administrative time each week.

With 391 licensed beds, the hospital provides a wide range of services, including acute medical and surgical services as well as intensive care, emergency and urgent care, inpatient/outpatient surgery, cardiac catheterization, neurology, orthopedics, oncology, urology, pulmonary, obstetrics and gynecology, outpatient diagnostic services, and adult behavioral services.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position provides managerial, clinical, and administrative oversight to patients and staff. Uses depth and breadth of clinical management knowledge to ensure the provision of high quality, safe, and cost-effective patient care. Demonstrates clinical expertise and oversees the leadership of clinical, financial, and personnel management of assigned areas. Provides administrative supervision of unit workflow, resource utilization and management, and operations for all clinical and non-clinical inner-department collaboration during assigned shift.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Manages and facilitates patient centered nursing care for designated patient populations by serving as a real-time clinical expert for unit staff and physicians for escalated problem-solving on patients, processes, and family issues. Manages the operations of the unit to ensure smooth and efficient patient care management and resource utilization. Demonstrates and supports HRO principals to improve quality and experience.

2. Assesses overall staffing effectiveness and adequate throughput by ensuring the appropriate number, competency and skill mix of staff are involved in the provision of needed health care services according to census, acuity, and responsible use of labor budget.

3. Responds to and assesses all codes and other crisis situations, implements plan, and evaluates response. Understands and utilizes the appropriate chain of command as needs arise.

4. Leads change by developing, implementing and evaluating quality and process improvement initiatives of the department in conjunction with the director. Seeks and utilizes input from staff and oversees change implementation. Ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies.

5. Provides input into operational and capital budgets and manages use of associated resources.

6. Serves as a professional resource to patients, families, physicians, and staff in the unit, by prioritizing, mediating and resolving concerns. Interprets organizational policies and facilitates patient-centered care.

7. Interprets and ensures regulatory compliance of business entity policy and procedures. Provides expertise and serves as a resource to committees and departments.

8. Assures the development of staff leadership through the design of effective shared leadership models and supports career advancement opportunities. Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.

9. Responsible for selection, orientation, on-boarding, and retention. Demonstrates leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities to create a culture of learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

BSN or MSN required for all new hires. BSN required for internal transfers/promotions within 6 months of transfer/promotion.

Requires a current RN license in state of practice. Requires BLS certification. ACLS certification required. (Note: ACLS is not required for incumbents working in a Behavioral Health Hospital setting). PALS certification may be required, based on facility assignment.

Must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of clinical care management as normally demonstrated through two years of clinical management experience relevant to patient population.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills of specialty area. Requires critical thinking, communication, influence, decision-making, analytical, and flexibility skills to make optimal decisions based on multiple variables and desired outcomes. Requires excellent, demonstrated verbal and written communication, negotiation, problem solving and conflict resolution skills; high level and critical decision-making ability; comprehension of law, policies, procedures, standards and practices. Must have the ability to practice skills according to department and professional standards and quality requirements. Must be effective in matrix management.

Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral or BUMG, BUMCT in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.

An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in Nursing preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
