The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Personnel Technician 2, Facilities Management [R0153552]
ROLE of the POSITION
Facilities Management's Finance and Business Operations Personnel Team is searching for a Personnel Technician 2 to support our team of professionals in maintaining UNLV’s learning, research, and working environments. Under direct supervision from the Personnel Technician 3, the incumbent provides frontline customer service, performs timekeeping and compensation processing, generates reports, processes technical transactions, and assists with onboarding and offboarding operations.
Frontline Support & Inquiries
Answer questions from frontline staff—including classified employees, administrative faculty, student employees, and temporary staff—regarding general personnel and payroll inquiries.
Apply applicable statutes, regulations, collective bargaining agreements, and university procedures to provide accurate information under direct guidance from the Personnel Technician 3.
Respond to inbound emails, phone calls, and in-person inquiries primarily focused on overtime rules, overtime reporting, clocking in/clocking out procedures, adjusting time for missed punches, navigating self-service portals, looking up leave balances, and submitting routine time-off requests.
Distribute pre-approved HR information packets and standard operating procedure (SOP) guides to staff.
Log inbound inquiries and common timekeeping issues to assist with tracking service trends.
Escalate complex policy interpretations or situations arising outside established guidelines to the Personnel Technician 3 for further research and resolution.
Compensation Operations
Perform day-to-day compensation operations, such as entering, reviewing, and auditing overtime, compensatory time, call-back, and standby pay, determining eligibility based on standard requirements in personnel team SOPs and Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) guidelines.
Perform time and overtime data entry across Workday and TMA.
Conduct routine compensation and leave audits in Workday, TMA, and TimeClock Plus.
Monitor timekeeping systems for missing punches, unapproved hours, or unsubmitted timesheets, sending standardized deadline reminders to supervisors prior to payroll lockouts.
Perform preliminary checks on submitted overtime, shift differentials, call-back, and standby hours against approved schedules.
Research timecard discrepancies, gather historical timecard/leave logs, and coordinate corrections with the Personnel Technician 3, administrative assistants, supervisors, and the NSHE payroll office.
Receive and resolve employee complaints or questions falling within established guidelines, and assist with resolving non-standard issues under the guidance of the Personnel Technician 3.
Research & Reports
Compose documents and operational materials, including standard correspondence, memoranda, reports, charts, and other items supporting department and university operations.
Provide and explain basic information regarding applicable rules, regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Distribute materials to appropriate parties following established distribution lists or on an as-needed basis.
Run, clean, and format scheduled, pre-formatted system reports (including TimeClock Plus reports, TMA reports, Workday reports, student hourly reports, vacancy tracking data, upcoming probation evaluation dates, and mandatory training compliance logs).
Format extracted system data into standardized departmental tables, basic charts, or visual spreadsheets for review by Personnel Technician 3 and FM leadership.
Maintain digital distribution lists and master copies of departmental HR forms, memoranda templates, and correspondence letterheads.
Technical Transactions & Database Maintenance
Regularly audit active employee profiles in HR databases to ensure position title, merit increases, supervisory lines, cost centers, work locations, and related details remain accurate.
File hard-copy documentation, purge inactive employee personnel files according to NSHE records retention schedules, and prepare documents for secure shredding or long-term digital archiving.
Update databases with new hires, employee terminations, promotions, lateral position changes, and other personnel updates.
Recruitment, Onboarding & Offboarding Logistics
Provide full logistical support for onboarding, including scheduling sessions, setting up meeting rooms, and collecting/verifying required post-offer compliance documentation (e.g., state-required forms, direct deposit, confidentiality agreements).
Provide onboarding support and assist with or conduct new employee orientation sessions following established procedures in the absence of the Personnel Technician 3.
Coordinate offboarding logistics with Personnel Technician 3, supervisors, administrative assistants, departing employees, and Human Resources.
Distribute standard offboarding checklists to ensure required documentation is completed and university property (keys, laptops, badges) is returned and logged in accordance with records retention requirements.
General Operational Support
Perform related duties as assigned in support of personnel administration, compensation operations, recruitment, and departmental business functions.
Maintain strict confidentiality of personnel information and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee records and data.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of technical personnel/payroll experience; OR one year of experience as a Personnel Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
BACKGROUND SCREENING
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background screening.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience working in higher education or a public sector environment.
Experience utilizing enterprise HR systems (e.g., Workday), facilities management software (e.g., TMA), and electronic timekeeping platforms (e.g., TimeClock Plus).
Strong organizational skills and demonstrated capability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment

SALARY
Grade 27, Step 1, salary $46,207.44.
In accordance with Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 284.170, initial appointments to classified positions typically begin at Step 1 of the assigned grade. A "Step" refers to the specific rate of pay within a grade, as determined by the Division of Human Resources.
