Course: Assessment and Eligibility in Special Education

Teacher candidates will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to investigate culturally and linguistically appropriate assessment procedures and tools. Teacher candidates will build foundational knowledge regarding the use of multiple methods of assessment and data-sources for eligibility and educational decisions for students with mild to moderate disabilities. Focus is placed on building effective partnerships with all stakeholders and applying ethical guidelines, legal policies, and effective conflict resolution strategies when determining eligibility for special education.

 What You Will Do:

• Facilitate classroom lecture and discussions

• Engage students in learning course objectives and topics

• Assess student performance and mentor success in the classroom

• Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

What You Will Bring:

·         Preferred: Doctorate in Special Education.

·         Minimum: Masters in Special Education AND

o    2 areas of exceptional expertise. All instructors must have a valid state special education teaching certification AND a minimum of three years teaching students with disabilities grades K-12 AND

o    at least six graduate credits of special education assessment coursework.
