Day (United States of America)Job Summary:
The Child Life Specialist provides procedural support, coping, emotional support, medical play, normalization and therapeutic play for children in the hospital/clinic setting. Candidate must have an in-depth understanding of child development and coping techniques and skills to teach and model to patients and families.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Provides a safe, normalizing and therapeutic environment in the hospital setting appropriate to developmental level and patient needs.
Assists patients in coping with the stress of hospitalization, illness, death and or loss.
Participates in patient/family teaching and coping.
Functions as a member of the health care team integrating the goals of the Child Life program.
Supervises volunteers and interns.
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Child Life/Child Development or related required
- Completion of a 480-hour internship under the supervision of a CCLS. This experience must have included opportunities to provide procedural support, coping, emotional support, medical play, and therapeutic play.
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- CCLS - Child Life Certification (or eligible within 1 year of employment)
- BLS
