The Facilities Engineering Manager will also support workplace safety by helping ensure employees and operational leaders have the PPE, safety equipment, and physical infrastructure necessary to perform work safely. Operational leadership retains responsibility for employee compliance with established safety requirements.

 

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary point of responsibility for facilities projects from initial requirement through completion.

 

Translate operational and manufacturing needs into clearly defined scopes of work and technical requirements.

 

Develop project plans, schedules, cost estimates, and contractor requirements as appropriate.

 

Coordinate internal stakeholders, equipment manufacturers, contractors, vendors, and service providers.

 

Solicit and evaluate contractor/vendor solutions and proposals in coordination with company procurement processes.

 

Monitor project execution, resolve field issues, and verify completed work meets the intended requirement.

 

Manage multiple facilities projects and maintenance requirements simultaneously.

 

Identify risks, dependencies, infrastructure limitations, and potential schedule or operational impacts before work begins.

 

Provide leadership with project status, significant risks, cost concerns, and issues requiring management decisions.

 

Review electrical requirements associated with manufacturing equipment, facility modifications, lighting, compressors, and other systems.

 

Understand and apply working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) when developing facility requirements.

 

Perform or validate basic electrical load calculations and evaluate existing electrical infrastructure and available capacity.

 

Coordinate with qualified electricians and electrical contractors to develop and execute appropriate solutions.

 

Review manufacturer specifications and translate equipment electrical requirements into installation requirements.

 

Identify potential electrical infrastructure limitations and coordinate required upgrades.

 

Coordinate facility requirements associated with installation, relocation, or modification of manufacturing equipment.

 

Review equipment specifications, dimensions, weight, utility requirements, foundation requirements, anchoring, clearances, and desired placement.

 

Develop or coordinate equipment installation plans with operational leadership, equipment manufacturers, and contractors.

 

Coordinate electrical power, compressed air, foundations, ventilation, plumbing, and other supporting infrastructure.

 

Ensure facility modifications are coordinated to minimize disruption to ongoing operations.

 

Review equipment foundation and installation specifications.

 

Translate equipment size, weight, placement, anchoring, and manufacturer requirements into actionable requirements for concrete contractors.

 

Coordinate location, dimensions, specifications, and installation of equipment pads and foundations.

 

Work with appropriate technical specialists or engineers when requirements exceed the position's technical authority or require professional engineering approval.

 

Develop and coordinate compressed-air distribution requirements for manufacturing operations.

 

Support planning and modification of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, ventilation, and other facility utility systems.

 

Evaluate existing infrastructure when new equipment or operational requirements are introduced.

 

Identify utility capacity or infrastructure limitations and develop appropriate corrective solutions.

 

Coordinate specialized contractors when work requires licensed trades or specialized engineering expertise.

 

Conduct routine facility inspections and identify maintenance, repair, and improvement requirements.

 

Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for facility systems and equipment.

 

Ensure recurring maintenance requirements are completed and appropriately documented.

 

Coordinate HVAC maintenance, filter replacement, plumbing repairs, lighting, electrical maintenance, and other routine facility requirements.

 

Maintain awareness of facility conditions and proactively address deficiencies before they affect operations.

 

Coordinate emergency or unscheduled facility repairs.

 

Perform appropriate minor hands-on facility maintenance when practical while recognizing when work should be performed by a qualified contractor or licensed trade.

 

Maintain effective relationships with facility maintenance vendors, contractors, landlords, and service providers.

 

Support company workplace safety efforts as they relate to facilities, manufacturing infrastructure, equipment, and PPE.

 

Coordinate with operational leadership to identify PPE requirements associated with work activities and equipment.

 

Ensure required PPE and related safety supplies are available, appropriately stocked, and accessible to employees.

 

Coordinate inspection, maintenance, and availability of facility-related safety equipment such as eyewash stations, first-aid supplies, fire extinguishers, emergency signage, and similar resources.

 

Incorporate safety considerations into equipment installations, facility modifications, and infrastructure projects.

 

Review equipment manufacturer requirements for applicable PPE, guarding, electrical safety, ventilation, emergency access, and other physical safety requirements.

 

Support facility and infrastructure requirements associated with lockout/tagout, machine guarding, electrical safety, compressed air, fall protection, and similar programs as applicable.

 

Coordinate facility-related safety requirements for contractors performing work at company locations.

 

Identify safety-related facility deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions.

 

Support operational leadership with technical or facility-related safety concerns.

 

A critical requirement of this position is the ability to independently take an identified operational need and turn it into a completed solution.

 

Investigate problems and determine root causes.

 

Define technical and facility requirements.

 

Identify potential solutions.

 

Determine when internal resources, vendors, contractors, engineers, or licensed trades are required.

 

Develop scopes of work and coordinate execution.

 

Troubleshoot issues encountered during execution.

 

Make appropriate decisions within established authority.

 

Escalate issues requiring leadership decisions rather than relying on leadership to manage routine project execution.

 

Follow requirements through completion and verify the resulting solution meets the operational need.

 

Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications & Education Requirements and Desired Skillsets

Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, facilities management, industrial technology, or a related technical discipline is preferred but should not be required when equivalent practical experience demonstrates the necessary capabilities.

 

Demonstrated experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, commercial, or technically complex facilities.

 

Demonstrated ability to independently manage facility projects from requirement development through completion.

 

Working knowledge of electrical systems and National Electrical Code requirements applicable to industrial or commercial facilities.

 

Ability to understand basic electrical load and power requirements associated with manufacturing equipment.

 

Experience coordinating electricians, mechanical contractors, concrete contractors, equipment vendors, and other skilled trades.

 

Ability to read and interpret equipment specifications, drawings, technical manuals, and contractor documentation.

 

Working knowledge of building systems including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, compressed air, and related utilities.

 

Experience with preventive maintenance and facility maintenance programs.

 

Strong troubleshooting and practical problem-solving skills.

 

Strong organizational and project management skills.

 

Ability to communicate technical requirements effectively with both technical and nontechnical personnel.

 

Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and unscheduled requirements.

 

Ability and willingness to perform hands-on facility inspections and appropriate minor maintenance activities.

 

Ability to recognize when work requires a licensed trade, professional engineer, or other specialized technical resource.

 

Experience supporting manufacturing or industrial operations.

 

Experience with manufacturing equipment installation and relocation.

 

Experience with electrical distribution systems and electrical load calculations.

 

Experience developing scopes of work and managing construction or facility improvement projects.

 

Experience with compressed-air systems and industrial utility distribution.

 

Experience coordinating concrete foundations or equipment pads for industrial machinery.

 

Experience supporting workplace safety programs, PPE requirements, or industrial safety initiatives.

 

Familiarity with OSHA requirements applicable to industrial/manufacturing environments.

 

Experience managing contractors and vendors.

 

Formal training or education in facilities engineering, industrial technology, electrical technology, construction management, engineering technology, industrial maintenance, or a related discipline.

 

Relevant facilities, maintenance, construction, electrical, project management, or safety certifications.

 

U.S. Citizenship required.

 

Physical Description

Employees in these positions will work in an assembly, manufacturing, and production environment, as well as in equipment assembly areas using technical and electronic testing equipment, including specialized software. They will collaborate with various personnel in a manufacturing or testing setting, attend meetings, contribute to team efforts, deliver timely results, produce reports, and communicate information effectively. Telework may be included.

 

In specialized laboratory or testing environments, employees will use electronic testing equipment, complex systems, and computer software. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, protective footwear, and lab coats may be required. Employees may be responsible for lifting, moving, testing, and assembling equipment of various weights and utilizing a variety of electronic testing tools.
