HP is seeking an Analytical Lab Lead to manage and drive the daily operations of the 3D Analytical Laboratory while supporting materials research, process development, and product quality initiatives for Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) technologies.
This role combines laboratory leadership, materials characterization expertise, equipment management, quality investigations, and R&D support. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring laboratory excellence, maintaining analytical capabilities, supporting innovation programs, and delivering high-quality technical data that enables informed engineering decisions.
Responsibilities:
Laboratory Management & Leadership:
Lead the day-to-day operation of polymer and metal analytical laboratories, ensuring compliance, equipment readiness, laboratory documentation, safety, and efficient workflow management.
Coordinate laboratory priorities, based on business, R&D, and operational needs while ensuring timely delivery of analytical results.
Support technical staff, drive knowledge retention, training, and best-practice sharing across the laboratory organization.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identify opportunities to expand laboratory capabilities, improve analytical methods, and evaluate new equipment or technologies supporting future business needs.
Support laboratory roadmap planning and investment decisions for equipment, methodologies, and technical capabilities.
Materials Characterization & Analytical Testing:
Lead analytical characterization of materials to support material development, qualification, and quality programs using a range of physical, chemical, thermal, and microscopy techniques, including analytical testing and data interpretation.
Act as the laboratory subject matter expert for analytical characterization methodologies, equipment capabilities, and data interpretation.
Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and technical integrity of laboratory data and characterization methodologies.
Drive continuous improvement of measurement systems and laboratory quality processes.
Education & Experience Recommended:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in: Materials science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or any other related scientific discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
Typically has 2-4 years of work experience, preferably in chemistry practices, lab procedures, process improvement, people management, or a related field or an advanced degree with little or no work experience.
Experience managing analytical laboratory operations, equipment, and workflows.
Experience in experimental design, data analysis, technical reporting, and problem-solving investigations.
Experience leading technical projects and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.
Preferred experience with additive manufacturing technologies (MJF, Metal Jet, or related technologies).
Preferred Certifications:
Six Sigma Certification
Knowledge & Skills:
Materials characterization techniques such as DSC, PSD, SEM, GPC, TGA, SEM, Rheology…
Statistical data analysis and interpretation.
Documentation and SOP development.
Laboratory safety and quality systems.
Technical report writing and presentation skills.
