The trading teams in ST&S RPTE are one of three regional Performance Units in ST&S and are primarily responsible for marketing BP’s Exploration production throughout the region, sourcing crude for our refineries, trading on behalf of our associates and for supporting our refinery assets in order to maximise commercial performance. Operations are a vital part of Supply and Trading. In RPTE this covers physical, paper and refinery coordination elements of operations across a large geographical region and deals with a wide variety of cultures and fields.
The Operations team comprises of sub teams namely Trading Operations, TC Fleet Operations, Cargo Assurance, Original document management, Commercial Analysts, Inventory Analysts and Shipping Coordination. Operations have a key role to play in ensuring that the front to back process runs smoothly, technical expertise is provided, and that valuable data and information is collected, verified and distributed in a timely manner, in order to provide full support to others dependent on such information in order to maintain an efficient and compliant process. The team handles the logistics of a deal to BP’s best commercial advantage whilst ensuring that all contractual and Group assurance obligations are met.
As member of the Operations Extended Leadership team, the Cargo Assurance Team Leader is responsible for leading a team of specialists who protect and enhance the interests of ST&S from an end-to-end value chain Quality and Quantity perspective. The team also provides technical advisory services to a wide variety of internal partners, helping to support the development and evolution of the business whilst also ensuring adherence and conformance to compliance and safety standards.
Key accountabilities
- Provide people leadership by leading through our values, with a focus on energising the team, creating an inclusive and diverse workplace culture, maximising value and instilling a one team ethos.
- Working alongside Technical Leads and peers in other regions to build enduring capability across the wider operations team, fostering learning and encouraging the sharing of knowledge.
- Working to develop and embed BP Leadership Expectations and Values and Behaviours within the team.
- Working closely with bench leadership and origination teams to advise upon and delivery portfolio strategies
- Supporting the delivery of the day-to-day activity by ensuring coverage of activity in the field as required across Europe and Africa
- Budget management for the team and ensuring recoveries where necessary
- Partnering with the PQ Senior Manager to establish and facilitate effective and insightful governance forums
- Partnering with the PQ Senior Manager, maintain an external focus and develop relationships with key industry associations, using influence to help shape policy and the development of standards
- Overall accountability for delivery of the team’s activity set, using data and insight to inform effective decision making and prioritisation
- Supporting and where required lead in continuous improvement initiatives and projects across wider operations.
- Develop and lead the supplier contracting and oversight framework, ensuring services are cost effective and drive broader value generation for ST&S
- Lead and deliver end-to-end Q&Q event reporting, using experience to educate and inform the wider operations team of emerging themes
Essential Education
- Degree or equivalent experience educated or equivalent qualifications/experience.
- Experience in a leadership role in with validated skill in excellent cross team communication and collaboration.
- Track record of safety leadership in an operational team leader role.
- Consistent record of project delivery and track record of driving transformation
- Experience in delivering change, setting budgets and performance management.
Essential experience and job requirements
- Demonstrable experience and skill in energy trading operations
- Solid understanding of risk, compliance, HSSE and Shipping requirements
- Consistent track record of delivering commercial value
- Strong leadership and communication skills including ability to motivate a team
- Strong team player
- Strong negotiation skills (formulating and implementing strategy)
- Ability to achieve operation and business goals through influencing, systematic planning and effective management of available resources

- Solid understanding of cargo specifications, testing methods and transport modes
- Knowledge and understanding of industry guidelines/standards as it relates to loss control and product quality specifications
Desirable criteria & qualifications
- Degree or equivalent experience educated or equivalent qualifications/experience in the chemistry field
- Demonstrated ability to identify and motivate change and simplification within a team.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and support delivery of commercial value
