COSTING OFFICER
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Kingston, Jamaica
Reports To: Senior Accounting / Finance Team
Position Summary
Our client, a well-established and diversified organization, is seeking a detail-oriented Costing Officer to support its accounting and costing function.
The successful candidate will assist with the accurate and timely costing of inventory and assets, including the recording of unit costs, verification of costing information, processing of sales transactions, and reconciliation of key accounts.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional looking to build practical experience in costing, inventory accounting, imports, and general accounting within a structured corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cost component accounts for assigned business areas and ensure costs associated with items sold are accurately recorded.
- Collect and verify costing information received from relevant departments.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in costing information.
- Record cost build-ups for units and inventory sold.
- Record unit costs, including applicable CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) values.
- Obtain and review relevant shipping and supporting documentation.
- Ensure costs are accurately assigned to the appropriate accounts.
- Prepare and process sales invoices.
- Post applicable sales transactions to the general ledger.
- Enter and process customs and import-related charges, including duties, fees, wharfage, and import licence costs.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of assigned accounts, which may include:
- Inventory
- Foreign payables
- Goods/units in transit
- Warranty accounts
- Assist with inventory and parts costing.
- Support the wider Accounting team as required.
- Perform other related accounting duties assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in an accounting, finance, inventory, costing, or similar role would be an asset.
- Exposure to inventory accounting, costing, imports, or a distribution environment would be advantageous.
- Working knowledge of general accounting principles and account reconciliations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience using accounting software would be an advantage.
