Job Description:

Assistant Manager, Project Management

Role Purpose

You will independently manage small to medium-sized projects from initiation through implementation, while supporting larger strategic programmes. This role is ideal for a driven project manager who enjoys bringing people together, solving problems, driving accountability and delivering results in a fast-paced environment and serves as a pathway towards senior project leadership roles.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

• Lead end-to-end delivery of cross-functional projects, ensuring agreed outcomes are delivered on time, within scope and within budget.
• Develop and manage project plans, milestones, dependencies, risks, issues and delivery schedules.
• Proactively identify delivery challenges, recommend solutions and escalate issues where appropriate.
• Facilitate workshops, project meetings and decision-making forums to maintain momentum and accountability.
• Ensure projects adhere to Sun Life governance, risk and financial management requirements.
• Support Senior Programme Managers on larger and complex initiatives.

Stakeholder Leadership

• Build strong relationships and alignment across diverse stakeholder groups, influence and drive accountability without direct authority.
• Communicate clearly project status, risks, decisions and recommendations.
• Support project sponsors and stakeholders in achieving successful business outcomes.

Financial Governance Management

• Manage project budgets, forecasts and expenditure for assigned projects.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting and governance artefacts.
• Ensure transparency and discipline in project tracking, forecasting and reporting.
   

Experience & Qualifications

• Approximately 5 years of project management experience delivering business and/or technology initiatives.
• Proven ability to independently manage projects through the full project lifecycle.
• Strong planning, organisation, problem-solving and execution skills.
• Experience managing project budgets, vendors and delivery risks.
• Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
• Financial services, insurance or regulated industry experience strongly preferred.
• PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent project management certification preferred.
