Job Description

Charlotte, NC or New York, NY

We are a global investment bank specializing in M&A and private capital advisory services. Clients worldwide rely on us to help unlock value in their business and turn ambitious goals into reality. We approach every engagement with boundless collaboration, pooling expertise and relationships across industries, service offerings, and geographies. For over 35 years, our clients have trusted us to think strategically, execute precisely, and deliver premium outcomes to help them grow.

We are ambitious in our goals and steadfast in the belief that clients deserve our very best. To achieve our highest aspiration, we invest in world-class, team-oriented individuals who are smart, driven, and principled – those who are eager to be part of something bigger than themselves. When you join Harris Williams, you are welcomed into a collegial environment where every individual has the opportunity to make an impact in a powerful and significant way. We invite you to learn more about careers at Harris Williams.

The Role:

You will join our Primary Fund Placement (PFP) team as a registered member of the client service function, working directly with the senior partners who own our GP and LP relationships. This is a dedicated, long term career path role rather than a stepping stone into a sales seat, and it is built for someone who wants to develop real depth in the alternative investment landscape.

Because this position is registered, you will be able to participate in investor conversations and placement outreach alongside senior partners, in addition to the preparation, coordination, and follow through that keep those relationships moving. Your day to day will combine high touch client interaction, disciplined pipeline and CRM management, proactive meeting preparation, actionable reporting, business development and support of high profile client events.

Why This Role is Unique

  • Registered scope: you will hold and maintain your Series 7 and Series 63 registrations through the firm, which allows you to take part in investor facing placement activity rather than supporting it from behind the line.
  • Proximity to the relationships: you will work side by side with the senior partners who own the firm's GP and LP relationships, with direct exposure to how capital is raised.
  • Real leverage: success is measured by increased capacity, sharper execution, and stronger follow through, not task volume.
  • A specialist seat: this is a long term role with the depth of exposure to primary fund placement that comes with staying in it, not a rotation.

Core Responsibilities:

Client Interaction and Follow Up

  • Function as a liaison between senior partners and clients (GPs and LPs), attend meetings, gauge client sentiment, proactively prepare partners for meetings, and provide concise, actionable summaries of interactions.
  • Draft and manage professional, thoughtful follow up communications after meetings and calls.
  • Represent the firm at industry events in a professional and productive manner.

Investor Outreach and Placement Support

  • Support placement outreach across the LP universe, helping translate senior level strategy into concrete touchpoints and improving the frequency and quality of LP interactions.
  • Participate in investor conversations regarding fund offerings.

Pipeline Management and Reporting

  • Maintain and manage a sales pipeline to track LP interactions and fund placement progress, ensuring no opportunities are missed.
  • Leverage Salesforce to organize client data, track interactions, and automate follow ups.
  • Prepare periodic reports on client activity, sales metrics, and fund placement progress.

Preparation and Organizational Support

  • Manage meeting preparation and background research, and collaborate on scheduling and calendar management.
  • Own end to end tracking of action items, touchpoints, and priorities across investor activity, and anticipate what information, outreach, or preparation will be needed next.

Event Support

  • Collaborate with partners across the Marketing Department to plan and execute high profile client events, ensuring smooth communication and logistics.

Regulatory and Compliance

  • Maintain your Series 7 and Series 63 registrations in good standing through the firm, including continuing education requirements.
  • Follow the firm's supervisory, communications review, and recordkeeping requirements that apply to registered personnel, and escalate potential concerns to the appropriate internal partners.

Job Specific Competencies, Education and Experience:

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in alternative investments (private equity, hedge funds, commodities) and/or client facing roles (corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions).
  • Series 7 and Series 63 licenses, active or eligible for reinstatement through the firm's registration process.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and research techniques.
  • Willingness to work outside standard hours, dependent on team travel needs.
  • Based in our Charlotte, NC or New York, NY office.

Preferred

  • Direct experience in primary fund placement, investor relations, or capital raising.
  • Familiarity with the GP and LP landscape, deal processes, and the regulatory requirements specific to primary fund placement.
  • Experience with data analytics tools alongside Salesforce.

Competencies

  • Emotional intelligence and professionalism: high EQ, maturity, and professionalism to interact effectively with clients at all levels, and the judgment to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Communication and organization: strong written and oral communication skills, organizational excellence, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Technical and analytical: technical proficiency across Salesforce and data analytics tools, the analytical skill to identify trends and opportunities, and the critical thinking to recommend next steps.
  • Team oriented and proactive: willing to collaborate with the PM team and other stakeholders while being self sufficient when needed, with a curious mindset and a proactive attitude toward identifying opportunities for improvement.

Our Culture & Growth

When you join Harris Williams, you step into a highly collaborative, high-expectations environment where individuals are empowered to take ownership and make a visible impact. We value curiosity, accountability, and a strong team-first mindset.

This is an environment where you will be expected to lean in, contribute meaningfully, and grow quickly, working alongside passionate colleagues who are committed to excellence and continuous improvement.

Additional Information

  • This position is based in our Charlotte, NC or New York, NY office.
  • This is a registered position. Employment is contingent on successfully completing the firm's registration process through its broker dealer, and on maintaining your registrations in good standing thereafter.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • This description reflects the core responsibilities of the role but is not intended to be all-inclusive. Responsibilities and focus areas may evolve based on business needs.
