An exciting opportunity exists for a talented and experienced Plumbing Lecturer to join the City of Liverpool College and play a leading role in realising our vision of being one of the top five colleges in the UK; renowned for its work with employers and the impact on economic growth. Working in our purpose-built modern Plumbing workshops, at our Vauxhall Road campus in Liverpool, you’ll be part of a team who encourage learners to unleash their full potential and be creative, through hands-on learning. You will have the ability to develop, prepare and maintain a safe and secure learning experience as well as working with young people to achieve their future potential. 

The perspective candidate must have:
  • A Level 3 NVQ in Plumbing
  • Relevant industry experience 
  • An Assessor qualification 
  •  A Teaching qualification

The Plumbing Department is an integral part of a leading and long-established Sustainable Construction & Building Services School that offers high quality courses from Level 1 up to Level 3 in Construction Craft and Building Services. In addition to this, we support local and national employers with short assessment courses such as;  ACS, 18th Edition Regulations, Unvented, Water Regulations, AM2, AM2s, AM2e and the Advanced Assessment of Competence. The central focus of our portfolio of courses is to ensure our students gain the practical skills and expertise that are necessary to forge a path of employment in the Construction and Building Service industries. In order to facilitate this, we have a dedicated team of experienced and outstanding lecturers, with an excellent working knowledge of Construction and Building Services.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life
  2. To contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to actively engage in the annual review
  3. To be aware of national developments in subject area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis
  4. To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons in order to achieve effective management of the learning process
  5. Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy
  6. Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued
  7. Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes
  8. To set and mark work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies, to record work carried out and assessment of same
  9. To track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies
  10. To provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences
  11. To be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and to play and appropriate part in their implementation
  12. Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers
  13. To liaise with Head of School in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added
  14. To liaise with Head of School and curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area
  15. To work with colleagues with relevant expertise to identify and address additional student  English and Maths skills development in subject area

  17. To review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development
  18. To communicate and consult with parents, carers and students including Parent’s Evening, Welcome Evenings, Open Evenings and other college events 
  19. To ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College’s policies and procedures
  20. To provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria
  1. Professional qualification relevant to the subject area.
  2. Relevant vocational experience in plumbing 
  3. Recent experience of teaching and assessing on plumbing courses
  4. A recognised teaching qualification or willingness to complete
  5. Knowledge and understanding of plumbing provision.
  6. Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery in plumbing
  7. Excellent computer literacy
  8. Engaged in Continuing Professional Development
  9. Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete  
  10. High level of communication and interpersonal skills
  11. Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves
Desirable Criteria 
  1. A Quality Assurance qualification  
  2. Experience of resource based learning
  3. An ICT qualification
  4. Membership of a relevant professional body  (e.g Gas Safe)
  5. Experience of assessing students’ needs and planning curriculum for their benefit including Technology Enhanced Learning  
  6. Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers
  7. Good understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes
