Johnson College is currently seeking an Airframe and Powerplant Instructor to join one of our newest programs, Aviation Technology. The Instructor will conduct technical training classes that are part of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) certified 147 Maintenance Program. The FAA Mechanics Airman Certification Standard (ACS) is the cornerstone of the curriculum. The program consists of classroom presentations and hands-on activities. The instructor will teach one or more assigned classes that are part of the program, including procedures, practices, materials, tools, machine tools, and equipment generally used in constructing, maintaining, or altering airframes or power plants. The instructor will report directly to the Program Director.

Qualified applicants will have either an FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant Certificate. Classroom, professional learning, or mentoring experience is preferred. Individuals must have strong communication skills, the ability to teach, expertise in their program area, good managerial skills, and knowledge of industry standards.

We are looking for someone to start this academic year, beginning at the end of August. The position will work from mid-August to mid-May. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Compile and maintain student grades, attendance records, and other paperwork.
  • Follow and maintain daily lesson plans that are in compliance with Part 147 certification.
  • Provide instruction based on FAA-published data, including handbooks, AC's, AD's, etc.
  • Comply with Johnson College Part 147 Operation Specifications Manual
  • Administer and grade tests and lab projects required for the course of instruction assigned.
  • Maintain lab equipment and instructional aids.
  • Assist other instructors with labs as necessary.
  • The instructor should have knowledge of all the tools, equipment, skills, and resources utilized in the field as well as the ability to work with students through hands-on applications.
  • Ensure students comply with policies and procedures outlined for the program.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment within the program area.
  •  Submit student book/ tool kit/ parts information to the Program Director.
  • Provide student advisement and assistance when necessary.
  • Promote the program and assist with the procurement of educational resources and equipment
  • Participate in College activities and events
  • Participate and be an active member in assigned campus committee (s)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate (must have either airframe or powerplant for consideration)
  • Required to stand, walk, use hands to lift, handle, or feel, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. 
  • Must frequently lift and/or balance up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 4 years of practical experience in Aviation
  • Classroom, professional learning, or mentoring experience preferred

SKILLS:

  • Ability to effectively present material to students and respond to questions 
  • Be familiar with the topics required by the FAA Mechanics ACS
  • Be familiar with the tools and procedures that would typically be encountered in an aircraft maintenance facility
  • Be familiar with current FAA regulations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Valid driver's license

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enforce college policies and procedures with all students and within their course of study

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

  • Equipment used in program of study, computer and associated software
