Location: New Hudson, MI (Onsite)

Overview
An industry-leading engineering organization is seeking an experienced Embedded Software & Controls Lead to provide both technical and people leadership for a high-performing controls engineering team. This position is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys mentoring others while remaining actively involved in the design, development, integration, and testing of advanced embedded control systems used in complex vehicle platforms.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise in embedded software and controls with proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and delivering challenging technical programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of embedded software and controls engineers.
- Manage employee development, performance, coaching, and technical growth.
- Support recruiting, hiring, resource planning, and team development.
- Lead the technical execution of embedded controls and software development projects.
- Define system architecture, embedded control strategies, and software functionality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Develop project estimates, schedules, and technical plans.
- Support customer meetings, technical reviews, and proposal activities.
- Develop, validate, and optimize control algorithms using modeling and simulation tools.
- Perform system integration, troubleshooting, testing, and performance validation.
- Assist with electronic hardware selection and integration.
- Ensure software complies with applicable engineering and quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 6+ years of engineering experience developing embedded software or control systems.
- Proven experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
- Strong background in embedded software development using C/C++.
- Experience with embedded Linux, RTOS, or microcontroller-based systems.
- Strong understanding of control systems and motion control applications.
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering organizations.
Preferred Technical Experience
Experience in several of the following areas is highly desirable:
- MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow
- Model-Based Development
- Embedded software architecture
- Control algorithm development
- System modeling and simulation
- Vehicle or system integration
- Electronic control systems
- Networking protocols including Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, EtherCAT, DDS, or TSN
- Automotive communication protocols including CAN, LIN, J1939, XCP, and CCP
- Electric or hybrid vehicle systems
- Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical system integration
- Data acquisition systems and troubleshooting

Additional Information
- Full-time onsite position (Monday-Friday)
- Approximately 10% travel to regional customer and test locations
- Position requires eligibility to obtain U.S. Government security clearance.
- Due to project requirements, applicants must meet U.S. government eligibility requirements for defense-related work.
