About the Role & Team

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Germany based local Original Productions team working across The Walt Disney Company’s Germany television production business, which includes the Disney+ streaming platforms.

The Head of Originals for Germany is responsible for leading the local team on Scripted and Unscripted Local Original Productions including production management and business affairs.

We are seeking an experienced executive for the position of Head of Originals, Germany. Reporting to the Head of Content, Disney+, EMEA, the role will be responsible for the commissioning and delivery of top quality local original productions for The Walt Disney Company, across Scripted and Unscripted for Disney+.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Germany-based Original Productions team working across The Walt Disney Company’s Germany local production business, which includes the Disney+ streaming platforms.

The Head of Originals for Germany will be responsible for leading the local team on Scripted and Unscripted Local Original Productions, including production management and business affairs.

This role will require you to be onsite in our Munich office on four days per week, with one day working from home.

What You Will Do

  • Oversee the development and production of original programming across Scripted and Unscripted productions for Disney+ in Germany.

  • In collaboration with Head of Content, Disney+, EMEA, set the strategy for the scripted and unscripted needs for local original production in Germany.

  • Day to day management of the development team, executive producers and production managers ensuring clarity in the brief, constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and delivery of top quality original productions.

  • Identify projects for local production, provide supervisory executive production on local projects

  • Be responsible for delivering projects on budget and within the required timeline

  • In collaboration with the international team, research and the commercial leaders, determine editorial needs for original production and build a strong pipeline and further strengthen the position for Disney+ and strongly collaborate with the regional team in UK.

  • Partner with Creative and Production Executives on projects, both in negotiating and greenlighting development and production projects, as well as establishing priorities for negotiations.

  • Coordinate cost allocation reviews with Finance, Production Management and production executives.

  • Build and maintain relationships with multiple functions in the business, understanding their roles and interdependencies Marketing, Research, Legal, Finance, Programming etc.

  • Project management including management of internal stakeholder (business affairs, production management, marketing/PR, finance)

  • Potentially overseeing some scripted and unscripted projects as and when the need occurs.

  • Ensure quality level of originals is in line with the brands

  • Specific project production budget.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Extensive track record in commissioning and production across Germany

  • Strong and established network in the German media industry and in particular with Producers and Licensors.

  • Executive production experience on scripted and unscripted projects is mandatory

  • Experience of working across a variety of genres

  • Proven extensive track record of projects developed and executively produced

  • Ability to identify, analyse and critique content and storytelling

  • Strong aptitude for establishing and maintaining strong and close working relationships

  • Experience of working with a diverse team and ability to work in a matrix organisation

  • Fluent written and spoken English and German essential
