The Fiscal Technical Specialist I/II/III provides specialized fiscal, administrative, records, and technical support within the Mono County Public Defender’s Office. Depending on assignment and level, responsibilities may include maintaining financial and administrative records, processing and reconciling information, preparing reports, monitoring transactions, maintaining databases and specialized records, and providing technical assistance related to departmental procedures and requirements. The position works closely with Public Defender’s Office staff and County partners to ensure information is accurate, complete, timely, and maintained in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.

The Fiscal Technical Specialist classification offers progressive levels of responsibility, with employees at the higher levels expected to perform increasingly complex and specialized assignments with greater independence. This position is an important part of the Public Defender’s Office by providing the fiscal, records, and administrative support necessary for attorneys and staff to effectively carry out the Office’s public defense mission.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and dependable professional who enjoys working with financial information, records, databases, and administrative processes in a service-oriented environment. The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills and the ability to accurately maintain records, review and reconcile information, prepare reports, perform calculations, and apply departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to assigned work. Strong computer skills and the ability to learn and effectively use spreadsheets, databases, and specialized County systems are important to success in this role.

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, and strong customer service skills. Because the position supports a Public Defender’s Office, the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately is essential. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines, communicating clearly with attorneys and staff, and working collaboratively in a professional legal environment. Candidates who are adaptable, organized, accurate, and committed to providing high-quality internal and public service will be well suited for this position.

The Mono County Public Defender’s Office is dedicated to protecting the constitutional rights of individuals who are unable to afford private legal representation. Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

FTS I
One (1) year of previous work experience in performing office, financial, or statistical support work.

FTS II
One (1) year of work experience in performing financial, statistical, assessment roll, treasury support, tax collection support, or document processing and recording work at a level comparable to Fiscal and Technical Specialist I with Mono County.

FTS III
Two (2) years of work experience in performing financial, statistical, assessment roll, treasury support, tax collection support, child support, or document processing and recording work at a level comparable to Fiscal and Technical Specialist II with Mono County.
