Location/Division Specific Information:
As part of the BioServices team, the Rockville, MD site focuses on the receipts, inventory storage, withdrawal and shipment of biological specimens, samples, clinical agents, and materials from multiple commercial and government clients.
How Will You Make an Impact?:
The Material Handler I supports operations by storing and shipping materials at temperatures ranging from ambient (room temperature) to -196 degrees C with potentially hazardous properties.
A Day in the Life:
- Receive incoming raw materials.
- Facilitate movement of materials, including hazardous materials, across the site
- Maintain accurate inventory through receipts, adjustments, and cycle counts.
- Efficiently and flawlessly handle materials, ensuring strict adherence to safety guidelines and procedures.
- Apply effective techniques to accurately receive, store, and distribute materials.
- Compete with speed and accuracy to fulfill customer orders and maintain inventory control.
- Determine and resolve any discrepancies or issues with materials, collaborating with team members as needed.
- Successfully implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize material handling processes.
- Efficiently handle and transport materials within the facility, ensuring flawless execution of all material handling activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine material needs and ensure timely delivery.
- Use different types of material handling equipment to safely transport materials within the warehouse.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and perform regular cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Assist in the implementation of process improvements to optimize material handling operations.
- Strictly adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- 2+ years of warehouse or inventory management experience
- Proven experience in material handling in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to accurately track inventory.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Ambitious and self-motivated with a strong desire to succeed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Able to work independently and set priorities
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to work as part of a team
- Able to work with methods to handle, process and store specimens using a computerized storage and retrieval system
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Able to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents, and marked changes in temperature.
- Must use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety protocols.
- Able to lift and carry 50 lbs and push up to 70 lbs
- Periodically work in walk-in freezers and refrigerators for up to 5 hours per day

Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Maryland is $18.54–$27.81.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
