Description

The City of Gunnison is looking for a friendly, dependable Concessions Worker to join the Ice Rink team and help create a fun and welcoming experience for our community. This part time position is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, staying active, and being part of a busy recreational environment. You will operate the concession stand, assist patrons with admissions and skate rentals, process cash and credit card transactions, prepare and serve food and beverages, and help keep the rink clean, safe, and inviting.


No two shifts are exactly alike at the ice rink. In addition to concession operations, you may assist with skate sharpening, snow removal, facility cleaning, special events, and other rink activities. The ideal candidate is friendly, responsible, comfortable working in a fast paced environment, and takes pride in providing excellent customer service. The position requires evening, weekend, holiday, and other nontraditional hours based on the rink schedule. A minimum age of 18 is required, with a high school diploma or equivalent and customer service experience preferred.

Hourly rate ranges from $21.55 to $24.36 per hour depending on qualifications and experience, plus a $1.84 per hour incentive completion bonus at the end of the season.  

General Purpose:
The Concessions Worker is responsible for providing efficient, courteous, and friendly customer service while operating the ice rink concession stand during scheduled hours, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. The position also assists with the overall operation of the ice rink by maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming facility. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining the concession stand, lobby, spectator areas, restrooms, and other public areas of the facility. When time and operational needs allow, the Concessions Worker may sharpen ice skates and assist rink staff with other duties necessary to support daily operations, programs, events, and the safe and efficient operation of the facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operates the ice rink concession stand, providing courteous and efficient customer service to patrons.
  • Sells ice rink memberships, daily admission/drop-in skating passes, skate rentals, snacks, beverages, and other approved concession items.
  • Verifies that all patrons have paid the appropriate admission or skating fees prior to entering the ice surface.
  • Operates and maintains cash drawers and point-of-sale/credit card systems; accurately processes cash and credit card transactions and completes required end-of-shift cash handling and closing procedures.
  • Maintains accurate cash and credit card receipts and reports discrepancies to the Concessions Manager or designated supervisor.
  • Stocks and organizes concession food, beverage, and supply inventories; assists the Concessions Manager with rotating products and supplies to minimize spoilage, waste, and shrinkage.
  • Prepares and serves food and beverages in accordance with established procedures and all applicable state and local health department rules and regulations.
  • Maintains a clean, sanitary, and safe concession area, including counters, equipment, food preparation areas, dishes, storage areas, trash receptacles, and floors.
  • Performs routine cleaning and sanitation of the ice rink facility, including the lobby, restrooms, concession area, and other assigned areas.
  • Cleans and maintains restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors, trash receptacles, and restroom supplies; ensures adequate supplies of toilet paper, paper towels, and other necessary materials.
  • Cleans and maintains the lobby, including floors, windows, trash receptacles, and other assigned areas.
  • Assists with skate rental operations and provides basic skate sharpening services as trained and directed.
  • Assists with snow removal operations throughout the ice rink complex, including entrances, walkways, sidewalks, and other assigned areas.
  • Follows all applicable City policies, facility procedures, safety practices, and health and sanitation requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge:
  • ·Knowledge of basic customer service principles and practices.
  • ·Knowledge of cash handling procedures, including making change, processing cash and credit card transactions, and completing end-of-shift closing and deposit procedures.
  • ·Knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) systems, including admission, membership, concession, and gift certificate sales.
  • ·Knowledge of basic food handling, sanitation, and cleaning practices.
  • ·Knowledge of applicable facility policies, procedures, and safety practices.
Skills:
  • ·Skill in providing friendly, courteous, and effective customer service.
  • ·Skill in handling cash, making change, balancing a cash drawer, and completing required closing procedures.

Job Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:The minimum age required to be a concessions worker is 18 years old. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. 1-2 years of customer service experience is preferred.
Other Necessary Requirements:Understanding local and State Health Department rules and regulations is preferred.
Work Environment:Work is performed primarily in an indoor ice rink environment.  Employees may also be required to work outdoors in cold, snowy, and changing weather conditions while performing snow removal and other facility-related tasks. Employees are expected to dress appropriately for indoor and outdoor working conditions.                                                                                                   The position requires frequent interaction with the public and may involve working in a busy, fast-paced environment, particularly during peak skating periods and special events. Employees should expect to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional hours based on the ice rink's operating schedule and programming needs.                                                  The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to moderately loud and may increase during busy skating sessions, events, and other high-traffic periods.                                                                                             The position may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, and performing routine cleaning and facility maintenance tasks.                                                                                 Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
