Our client is one of Nigeria's leading private construction groups, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality building and infrastructure projects across the country. They are seeking an experienced Project Engineer – Building Construction to provide technical and engineering support throughout the execution of building projects. The ideal candidate will bring a solid background in civil/building construction, strong technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate effectively with design teams, site personnel, consultants, and contractors. The role will be responsible for ensuring that construction activities are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, project schedules, and applicable codes and regulations.

Job Summary:

The Project Engineer will provide technical and engineering support throughout the construction project lifecycle, ensuring that construction activities are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, design requirements, applicable codes, and quality standards. The role will coordinate between the design, consultant, and site teams, resolve technical issues, and support the Project and Construction Managers in maintaining project schedules, quality, and cost objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day technical and engineering support throughout the construction project.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, architectural drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Coordinate with consultants, designers, architects, engineers, and site teams to ensure proper interpretation and implementation of design requirements.
  • Identify design discrepancies, clashes, and technical issues and coordinate their resolution with the relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare, review, and coordinate method statements, technical submittals, material submittals, and other technical documentation.
  • Ensure construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project requirements.
  • Provide technical solutions to site issues and support the Construction Manager in resolving engineering challenges.
  • Coordinate RFIs and technical queries with consultants and the design team and ensure timely responses.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, progress monitoring, and cost control.
  • Monitor engineering deliverables and ensure they are aligned with construction requirements and project timelines.
  • Coordinate with procurement and construction teams regarding technical specifications and material requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify that works are executed in accordance with approved designs and technical standards.
  • Support quality control activities and ensure compliance with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and project specifications.
  • Review technical documentation, inspection requests, test results, and relevant project records.
  • Support the Project Manager and Construction Manager in assessing technical changes, variations, and their potential impact on cost and schedule.
  • Assist with testing, commissioning, snagging, handover, and close-out activities.
  • Maintain accurate technical records and ensure proper documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements:

  • 7–8 years of experience in project engineering, preferably within building construction or a related construction environment.
  • Proven experience supporting the technical delivery of medium to large-scale building construction projects.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, MEP, and engineering drawings.
  • Good knowledge of construction methods, specifications, materials, and technical documentation.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing method statements, technical submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material submittals.
  • Strong understanding of applicable building codes, engineering standards, quality requirements, and construction practices.
  • Experience coordinating between design teams, consultants, contractors, and site teams.
  • Good understanding of project planning, scheduling, cost control, and construction progress monitoring.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment and resolve site issues efficiently.
  • Experience working on construction projects in Nigeria or other African markets would be an advantage.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or a relevant engineering discipline, depending on the project requirements, is preferred.
