Registered Nurse – Cath Lab / EP / Hybrid Vascular Surgery
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients throughout the continuum of care in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Electrophysiology (EP) Lab, and Hybrid Vascular Surgery environment. This position provides care in both the pre-/post-procedure holding area and procedure rooms, supporting diagnostic, interventional, electrophysiology, and vascular procedures.
The RN works collaboratively with cardiologists, electrophysiologists, vascular surgeons, radiologic technologists, anesthesia, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and provide pre- and post-procedure care.
- Prepare patients for cardiac, electrophysiology, vascular, and hybrid procedures.
- Establish and maintain IV access and administer medications, including moderate sedation and critical cardiovascular medications.
- Monitor patients continuously during procedures and recognize and respond to changes in clinical condition.
- Assist physicians during cardiac catheterization, PCI, EP procedures, ablations, device implants, and vascular/endovascular procedures.
- Perform and interpret hemodynamic monitoring and assist with management of procedural complications.
- Maintain knowledge and competency in emergency interventions, including cardioversion, defibrillation, and advanced cardiac life support.
- Monitor sedation, airway, vital signs, and patient response throughout procedures.
- Assist with preparation, positioning, sterile procedures, and equipment needs within the procedure room.
- Provide post-procedure monitoring, recovery, discharge teaching, and coordination of patient disposition.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure appropriate completion of orders and procedural records.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to promote patient safety, procedural efficiency, and positive patient outcomes.
- Maintain competency in current cardiovascular, electrophysiology, and vascular technologies, procedures, and evidence-based practices.
- Participate in quality improvement, education, competency validation, and departmental initiatives.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current RN licensure in the State of Illinois.
- Current BLS certification; ACLS required.
- Previous critical care, emergency, cardiac, or procedural nursing experience preferred.
- Cath Lab, EP, vascular, or procedural nursing experience preferred.
- Strong assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced procedural environment and respond appropriately to emergent situations.
Work Environment
This position offers the opportunity to develop and utilize advanced cardiovascular nursing skills while working across Cardiac Cath Lab, Electrophysiology, and Hybrid Vascular Surgery. The RN will have responsibilities in both the holding/recovery area and procedure lab, providing a varied and collaborative clinical experience.
