Overview

THE ROLE: The Senior Officer – Raw Material Sourcing is responsible for supporting the strategic sourcing, procurement, supplier management, risk mitigation, and commercialization of raw materials used across Herbalife's product portfolio. The role partners closely with Quality, Regulatory, R&D, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Planning, and Finance teams to ensure uninterrupted supply, cost competitiveness, regulatory compliance, and supplier performance.The incumbent plays a critical role in supplier qualification, spend optimization, category strategy execution, and raw material risk management while supporting both new product development and ongoing business requirements. The role contributes to delivering value through strategic sourcing initiatives, supplier innovation, market intelligence, and continuous improvement programs.

 

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE: 

New Product Development Sourcing & Innovation

1. Strategic Sourcing & Category Management

  • Support development and execution of sourcing strategies for assigned raw material categories.
  • Identify and evaluate new suppliers to support business growth, innovation, and risk mitigation objectives.
  • Conduct supplier market assessments, industry analysis, and competitive benchmarking.
  • Support supplier selection through technical, quality, operational, and commercial evaluations.
  • Develop sourcing recommendations based on total cost of ownership and supply risk considerations.
  • Monitor commodity markets, cost drivers, and supply landscape developments impacting assigned categories.

2. Supplier Qualification & Development

  • Identify, evaluate, qualify, and onboard new raw material suppliers.
  • Coordinate supplier qualification activities with Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Support supplier audits, capability assessments, and corrective action plans.
  • Evaluate supplier manufacturing infrastructure, quality systems, capacity, business continuity, and financial stability.
  • Maintain approved supplier databases including certifications, lead times, and risk assessments.
  • Drive supplier development initiatives to improve quality, service, and reliability.

3. Procurement Operations & Supply Assurance

  • Support procurement activities to ensure uninterrupted supply of raw materials.
  • Coordinate with Supply Planning and Manufacturing teams to manage changing demand requirements.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to delivery, lead time, inventory, and service metrics.
  • Identify supply risks and develop suitable mitigation plans.
  • Resolve supply disruptions and supplier-related issues through effective stakeholder coordination.
  • Support inventory optimization while maintaining required service levels.

4. Cost Management & Commercial Excellence

  • Conduct commercial evaluations, should-cost analysis, and supplier cost comparisons.
  • Support RFQs, RFPs, and supplier bidding activities.
  • Lead commercial negotiations within delegated authority levels.
  • Identify opportunities for savings, cost avoidance, value engineering, and productivity improvements.
  • Benchmark supplier pricing and competitiveness.
  • Track sourcing savings and productivity initiatives.

5. Alternate Supplier Development Support

  • Collaborate with R&D and Quality , Supply Planning  teams to source alternate raw materials.
  • Support qualification and commercialization of alternate ingredients.
  • Coordinate supplier documentation, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure supplier readiness for trials, validation batches, and commercial launches.
  • Support alternate material evaluations and sourcing projects.

6. Supplier Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with strategic suppliers.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews using agreed KPI metrics.
  • Support supplier business reviews and continuous improvement programs.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve quality, operational, and commercial challenges.
  • Promote supplier-driven innovation opportunities.

7. Risk Management & Compliance

  • Monitor supply chain risks, commodity volatility, regulatory changes, and capacity constraints.
  • Develop contingency sourcing and dual-source strategies.
  • Support risk assessments for critical raw materials.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with GMP, FSSAI, Herbalife quality requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Support sustainability, ESG, and responsible sourcing initiatives.

8. Reporting & Analytics

  • Analyze supplier performance, spend trends, and sourcing effectiveness.
  • Develop reports and dashboards to support sourcing decisions.
  • Track procurement KPIs, inventory health, and cost savings.
  • Generate actionable insights to improve sourcing performance.

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: 

Skills: 

  • Strong understanding of procurement, strategic sourcing, and supplier management processes.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, commodity markets, supplier qualification, and procurement best practices.
  • Understanding of GMP, FSSAI, quality systems, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and commercial evaluation skills.
  • Effective stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration capabilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Experience: 

  • Minimum 3-6 years of experience in Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, Category Management, Raw Material Sourcing, Supply Chain, or Supplier Management.
  • Experience in Nutraceutical, Food, Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, FMCG, or Consumer Health industries preferred.
  • Experience working within GMP/FSSAI regulated environments.

 

Education: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy, Food Technology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • MBA or Master's degree preferred.
  • APICS, CIPS, CPSM, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent certification is an advantage.
