Job Summary:
At LG Energy Solution Arizona, Inc., At LG Energy Solution Arizona, Inc., the Sr. Engineer, Environmental & Sustainability leads initiatives to identify, evaluate, and control workplace and environmental risks. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, while driving company EHS standards, programs, and continuous improvement initiatives. Acting as a senior technical resource, the Senior Engineer leads audits, inspections, incident investigations, regulatory compliance activities, future permitting needs, environmental reporting, and emissions data evaluation to improve environmental performance and maintain compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Own and lead site-level environmental permitting strategy, including new permit applications, renewals, modifications, regulatory submissions, and long-term permitting needs for air, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, and other applicable environmental programs.
- Serve as the senior environmental subject matter expert for assigned regulatory programs, providing technical interpretation, compliance direction, and risk-based recommendations to site leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental management systems and program standards to strengthen compliance, operational consistency, and sustainability performance.
- Drive the ISO 14001 certification and maintenance process by leading gap assessments, corrective action planning, internal readiness reviews, and cross-functional implementation of environmental management system requirements.
- Review and validate complex environmental data, emissions calculations, discharge information, waste profiles, and compliance records to identify trends, regulatory risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Lead regulatory reporting and agency-facing submissions, ensuring accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and alignment with applicable federal, state, local, and company requirements.
- Act as a primary technical liaison with regulatory agencies, external consultants, and internal leadership during inspections, inquiries, permit negotiations, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Provide senior-level environmental review for capital projects, process changes, new equipment installations, chemical introductions, and management of change activities to ensure environmental risks and permitting impacts are evaluated before implementation.
- Lead environmental audits, inspections, and compliance assessments; assign corrective actions, verify closure, and escalate significant risks or recurring issues to appropriate leadership.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, specialists, and cross-functional team members on environmental compliance practices, data evaluation, regulatory expectations, and internal program requirements.
- Develop and implement environmental initiatives that reduce compliance risk, improve operational controls, support sustainability goals, and align with company EHS strategy.
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, Facilities, Maintenance, Quality, Safety, and other departments to embed environmental controls into daily operations and long-term business planning.
- Prepare executive-level updates, compliance summaries, risk assessments, and improvement recommendations for management review.
- Promote workplace organization and cleanliness in accordance with 5S3R standards: 5S — Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain; 3R — Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field required.
- 7+ years of experience in environmental reporting, regulatory compliance, or a related function within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with environmental permits and reporting, including air, wastewater, stormwater, and hazardous waste.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting or participating in ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support environmental operations, regulatory needs, and communication with headquarters.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate environmental data, identify risks, and recommend solutions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory agencies.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes and technologies, including automation, chemicals, and electrical systems.
