Nanopath is developing a first-in-class in vitro diagnostics platform to transform how diseases are diagnosed. We aim to replace lengthy molecular testing workflows by bringing rapid, high-quality diagnostics closer to the patient. About the Role
- Support the assembly, build, and testing of Nanopath's point-of-care molecular diagnostic platform, including the fluidic cartridge consumable and the optical reader instrument.
- Assemble plastic cartridge consumables, including component preparation, bonding, sealing, and reagent loading, following documented work instructions.
- Build and integrate electromechanical assemblies for reader systems, including mechanisms, motors, sensors, optics, wiring harnesses, and PCBAs.
- Perform in-process inspection, functional testing, and troubleshooting of cartridges and reader subassemblies, and report non-conformances to the engineering team.
- Support builds from prototype through pilot production, and provide hands-on feedback to engineering on design for assembly and manufacturability.
- Help develop, refine, and maintain assembly work instructions, build records, fixtures, and tooling.
- Manage parts inventory, kitting, and incoming inspection of components from vendors and contract manufacturers.
- Maintain build documentation and traceability in compliance with ISO 13485 and Good Documentation Practices.
Technical Qualifications
- Hands-on experience assembling cartridge consumables, microfluidic devices, or other plastic disposables, ideally for medical devices or diagnostics.
- Hands-on experience building electromechanical assemblies or instruments.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools, precision measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges), and basic electrical test equipment (multimeter, power supply).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly instructions, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials; working familiarity with GD&T is a plus.
- Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment (ISO 13485, FDA QSR/QMSR), including following controlled procedures and completing device history or build records.
- Experience in cleanroom or controlled-environment assembly, ESD-safe handling, or IPC soldering and cable/harness standards (e.g., IPC J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620) is a plus.
- Experience supporting the transfer of builds from prototype to pilot or contract manufacturing is a plus.
General Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical certificate, or military technical training. At least 2 years of hands-on assembly experience in medical device, diagnostics, or other precision manufacturing. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent may be acceptable in lieu of experience.
- Ability to work on-site in Cambridge, MA.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity, with a commitment to quality and consistency in repetitive, precise work.
- Clear communicator who documents work accurately and raises issues early to engineering and quality teams.
- Proactive self-starter with eagerness to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
- Passion for technology translation and willingness to shape Nanopath’s future.
