This position is responsible for advancing the Meijer brand by producing groundbreaking creative across customer journey, for large scale paid media marketing touchpoints.

The Designer I is primarily accountable for creative development execution of the print and digital Weekly Ads, including ideation, creative development and execution of projects and marketing campaigns as part of Meijer’s Retail Media Network. Working from a style guide, the Designer I produces original and creative ideas and art to capture customer attention through a variety of media, including but not limited to in-store signage, print, and digital media.

The role is expected to be versed in relevant graphic design and web software package, have working knowledge of branding principles including layout, color theory and typography across print, digital and in-store tactics, and desire to understand retail and the fast pace of change, with confidence and ambition to create exceptional customer focused promotions.


 

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Successfully integrates original creative ideas and strategically designs new concepts that can flex seamlessly across different types of media to build cohesive campaigns and/or customer facing artwork.
  • Ability to navigate shift from print to digital ad development, leveraging guidelines for planning, while producing end designs that are customized each week to drive the business forward.
  • Conceptualizes original and creative customer communication ideas and brings them to life by partnering cross functionally with Associate Design Managers, Sr. Designers, Designer III, Designer II, Photography and Copywriters.
  • Understands Meijer brand standards and creative style guides, and uses them as inspiration to produce unique, impactful work across the customer journey and various media touchpoints. Leverages knowledge to interpret how to design and amplify key messages, organize a story for customers.
  • Ability to fully understand client deliverables, and to take responsibility for them.
  • Versed in campaign development across media types - .com/mobile, social, radio, OOH, video, etc.; while the candidate should be versed in design development across media, there may be a particular focus in this role (i.e.: promotional design, ad development, digital design).
  • Ability to simplify complex challenges into simple, compelling customer messaging and creative.
  • Performs well under pressure, managing multiple projects of varying complexity against daily deadlines. Assumes accountability for design output, accuracy and edits.
  • Ability to negotiate change requests with Marketing, Merchandising or 3rd party vendor teams that need modifying to overall design, while ensuring design remains customer friendly and within Meijer brand standards.
  • Effectively presents creative concepts to large audiences, listening and adapting concepts to audience feedback.
  • Ability to translate creative feedback from various levels of leaders within Marketing and Merchandising into action and refine concepts while keeping Meijer brand standards and customer top of mind.

What You'll Bring With You:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in graphic design.
  • Understanding of and experience in corporate branding, including understanding objectives, defining tone, layout, color theory and typography in signage, print and digital media.
  • Fluency in current graphic design practices software, such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Pro-active self-starter with ability to be both a conceptual and conscientious creative thinker.
  • Understanding or art direction principles for photography.
  • Excellent communication, prioritization and time management skills within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to multi-task on many projects across business types with both high and low levels of art direction.
  • Awareness of design trends and natural talent to adapt them to customer-facing graphic design.
  • Versed in relevant graphic design and web software packages.
