Summer 2027 Consulting Internship - Government Procurement and Contracting

Overview

The Local Government Practice Group is seeking a Consulting Intern, Government Procurement and Contracting Analyst to join our team. Our Local Government Practice Group serves clients who are running cities, towns, counties, and school districts across the country. A core service that we provide to municipal government clients is that of software system planning – including developing competitive request for proposal (RFP) documents that support our clients evaluating new large-scale software solutions to replace legacy software products. We offer software system selection planning for a variety of platforms including enterprise resource planning (ERP), permitting/land management, utility billing/customer information systems, electronic health records, CAD/RMS and related public safety systems, as well as other point solutions and enterprise-wide software systems.

 

As a Consulting Intern serving as a Government Procurement and Contracting Analyst, you can expect to receive guidance from the supervisor(s), consultant or principal in charge of an engagement or project within our serving local government clients looking to modernize the digital practices enterprise wide. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates interested in learning about or further developing their existing knowledge of governmental procurement and supporting clients with critical business transformation projects. This role will primarily work alongside a Manager in our Local Government Practice Group who supports procurement planning across multiple project teams and client engagements.

With guidance from staff members of the Local Government Practice Group and  particularly within our Enterprise Digital Transformation Practice, you will become familiar with the firm’s systems, operations and relationships. The firm expects you to demonstrate flexibility, have a willingness to seek out advice, and exhibit a passion for learning. 

This internship is based in our Portland, Maine office.

You Will

• Develop an understanding of the general consulting process in local government. 
• Assist in performing consulting engagements of all sizes. 
• Assist with project management tasks such as tracking and reporting project progress, conducting research, maintaining project document repository, and reviewing deliverables for quality assurance.
• Assist with the preparation of solicitation documents (RFPs, scoring tools and templates, etc), leveraging templates and client-specific work products and processes/policies
• Follow appropriate diagnostic, data collection, fact-finding, and data analysis practices.
• Keep supervisors and others informed of status of assigned projects.
• Provide ad hoc assessments and briefings in response to client requests.
• Participate in staff/team meetings and training and work effectively as a team player on multiple client projects.

You Have

• Currently enrolled as a student in a BA/BS/MS Degree in Political Science, Business Administration, or Public Policy or Administration; or hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant field and have worked in government procurement for a minimum of 12-months.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong attention to detail
• Demonstrated experience in relationship building, including excellent writing and communication skills.
• Relevant work experience in government, procurement, or public administration field is a plus.
• Willingness and ability to travel.

Compensation Details

The hourly rate for this role is $30 per hour. This rate represents BerryDunn’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications in excess of the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply and a final rate may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The rate of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, seniority, merit, education, training, amount of travel, and other relevant business considerations.
