Description
At ASI, we are revolutionizing industries with state-of-the-art autonomous robotics solutions. Within the fields of agriculture, construction, landscaping, and logistics, we deliver technologies that enhance safety, productivity, and efficiency. With our core values of Simplicity, Safety, Transparency, Humility, Attention to Detail and Growth guiding everything we do, we're shaping the future of automation in dynamic markets.
As a GNC Engineer IV, you will solve challenging controls and localization problems for ASI's unmanned ground vehicles using state-of-the-art techniques. You design controls and localization algorithms, prove them in simulation, and validate them on real vehicles in the field. You work independently on complex technical problems, mentor junior engineers, and may take a team-lead role for the group. You develop across Python and C/C++/ROS, and you use AI coding agents to move quickly from design to tested capability. You report to a Product Manager and work closely with the Tech Lead on the Advanced Prototype team.
Responsibilities
-
Design controls and localization algorithms for unmanned ground vehicles.
-
Develop simulations that prove controls and localization designs before field testing.
-
Validate and tune controls solutions on real vehicles in the field.
-
Conduct research to produce design solutions, improvements, and new products.
-
Document designs, analyses, and tuning results in company report format.
-
Mentor junior GNC engineers and provide technical leadership in controls.
-
Write proposals that require controls and localization solutions.
-
Use AI coding agents to accelerate development from design to tested capability.
-
Implement and integrate solutions across Python and C/C++/ROS.
Qualifications
-
Master's or PhD in engineering with an emphasis in controls and localization.
-
10+ years of relevant controls and localization experience.
-
Depth in state-space control, modern controllers, and localization algorithm design.
-
Proficiency in Python and C/C++, with ROS experience.
-
Field experience tuning controls and localization on real vehicles.
-
Strong technical documentation of designs, simulations, and tuning results.
-
Demonstrated independence on complex problems and mentoring of junior engineers.
-
Comfort using AI coding agents and modern tooling to develop quickly.
-
Ability to work on-site in Logan, Utah.
Physical Requirements
-
Ability to remain in a stationary position at a computer workstation for extended periods.
-
Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment continuously.
-
Ability to communicate and exchange information in person, via phone, and through electronic means.
-
Ability to traverse office, lab, data center, and field environments as required.
-
Ability to work in lab, prototype, and outdoor field environments around vehicles and equipment.
