Assistant General Manager, Inbound & Reverse Logistics

Position Summary:

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) – Inbound & Reverse Logistics is responsible for leading all inbound, returns, rebox (Special Projects), and slotting operations within a combined distribution and fulfillment center. This role ensures efficient product flow into the building, accurate inventory positioning, and effective processing of returned goods to maximize recovery and minimize loss.

The AGM serves as a key member of the site leadership team, driving operational excellence, team performance, safety, and continuous improvement across all assigned functions. 

This role will report directly to the Sr. Director – Operations and is an on-site role at our Hodgkins, IL facility.

Key Responsibilities:

Inbound Operations Leadership

• Oversee all inbound receiving, unloading, and putaway activities 
• Ensure timely and accurate processing of incoming shipments 
• Partner with transportation and vendor teams to optimize dock scheduling and flow 
• Monitor inbound KPIs including dock-to-stock time, accuracy, and labor productivity 

 Reverse Logistics & Returns

• Lead end-to-end returns processing, including inspection, disposition, and system updates 
• Develop strategies to maximize product recovery and minimize write-offs 
• Ensure compliance with company policies for damaged, defective, and customer-returned goods 
• Drive continuous improvement in returns cycle time and cost efficiency   

Rebox / Refurbishment Operations

• Oversee reconditioning, repackaging, and relabeling processes 
• Maintain quality standards for items re-entering sellable inventory 
• Partner with quality and merchandising teams to ensure product standards are met 
• Optimize labor and workflows to balance speed and accuracy 

Slotting & Inventory Optimization

• Own inventory transactions as leading indicators and overall FTZ inventory health. 
• Own slotting strategy to maximize space utilization and picking efficiency 
• Analyze product velocity, cube, and demand patterns to optimize locations 
• Partner with outbound operations to align slotting with fulfillment needs 
• Maintain accurate location control and inventory integrity  

People Leadership

• Lead, coach, and develop front-line managers and supervisors across all functions 
• Build a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement 
• Drive performance management, succession planning, and talent development 
• Ensure proper staffing levels and labor planning 

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

• Drive Lean / Six Sigma initiatives to eliminate waste and improve processes 
• Identify and implement process improvements across inbound and reverse logistics 
• Utilize data and metrics to inform decision-making and prioritize initiatives 

Safety & Compliance

• Champion a safety-first culture across all teams 
• Ensure compliance with all OSHA and company safety standards 
• Conduct  regular audits and implement corrective actions 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Outbound, Transportation, Inventory Control, and IT teams 
• Align inbound and reverse logistics priorities with overall site goals 
• Support peak planning and execution across the building 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Dock-to-stock cycle time 
• Inbound accuracy rates 
• Returns processing cycle time 
• Recovery rate/cost of returns 
• Inventory accuracy 
• Labor productivity and cost per unit 
• Safety metrics (TRIR, near misses, etc.) 

Requirements

Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 
• 7+  years of operations leadership experience in distribution, fulfillment, or logistics 
• 3+  years managing multiple functional areas and leaders 
• Strong knowledge of inbound logistics, returns processing, and inventory management 
• Proven leadership and team development experience 

Preferred

• Experience in high-volume eCommerce or omnichannel fulfillment environments 
• Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certification 
• WMS (Warehouse Management System) expertise 
• Experience managing reverse logistics or refurbishment operations

Impact of the Role

This role is critical to ensuring product flows efficiently into and back through the building, directly impacting inventory availability, customer satisfaction, and cost control. The AGM – Inbound & Reverse Logistics plays a key role in driving both operational performance and long-term scalability.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $150,000 annually, reflecting the anticipated compensation at the time of posting. Final placement within this range will be determined by several factors, including—but not limited to—education, certifications, relevant experience, skills, and overall business needs.
