The Boeing CompanyThe Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity for a Platform Engineer (Experienced or Senior) to join Boeing Defense, Space & Security in Berkeley, MO. This role focuses on platform engineering, build automation, legacy systems support, and cloud modernization in support of mission-critical engineering and software development environments.
You will help maintain and modernize internal engineering tools, build systems, and automation workflows in support of a secure, cloud-based infrastructure environment. In this role, you will work closely with software developers, mission systems engineers, and other technical stakeholders to improve developer productivity, streamline release processes, and enable reliable software delivery across the program.
The ideal candidate is a strong technical problem solver with experience in software development, infrastructure automation, and cloud engineering. This position requires a hands-on engineer who can support legacy environments while helping improve tools, pipelines, and deployment infrastructure across the program.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead platform engineering efforts in support of mission-critical software development and delivery environments
Maintain, troubleshoot, and refactor legacy internal engineering tools, build scripts, and automation utilities
Design and develop custom software tools and automation solutions to support engineering workflows and program needs
Support and improve secure, cloud-based infrastructure environments used by the program
Architect, provision, and maintain infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code practices
Modernize legacy build and release processes into secure, repeatable CI/CD workflows
Containerize legacy applications, build tools, and dependencies to improve reproducibility and consistency
Work closely with software developers to improve local development environments and remove build bottlenecks
Collaborate with mission systems engineers and other technical stakeholders to support platform stability and engineering efficiency
Apply analytical problem-solving skills to resolve infrastructure, tooling, and build-related issues
Document engineering practices and platform processes to support replication, scaling, and continuous improvement
Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers as needed
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Berkeley, MO.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment (An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start may be required)
Bachelor's Degree
3+ years of experience with programming in C, C++ or C#
Experience with scripting, particularly in shell scripting in sh and csh variants, Bash, Python, and PERL
1+ years of experience with AWS Services, E.g. VPC, IAM, EC2, Auto-scaling, ELB, ECR, S3, DynamoDB, Postgres (RDS), Lambda, SQS, SNS, RDS, VPC, Route 53, Cloud Front, Cloud Watch, AWS Config, Cloudtrail, AWS Developer Tools etc.
Experience with Terraform,, Jenkins, Git, and Ansible, Cloud formation, etc.
Experience with build and test tools such as (or similar to) BoostBuild, BoostTest, CMake, and Make
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Level 4: 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to troubleshoot and support legacy engineering tools, build scripts, and automation workflows
Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker or Podman
Working knowledge of secure system administration practices and support for protected or regulated environments
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work across technical teams
Experience supporting defense, aerospace, or highly regulated government systems
Experience working in mission systems, embedded software, simulation, or flight software environments
Experience modernizing, refactoring, or containerizing legacy applications, build environments, or engineering tools
Experience with AWS GovCloud, JWCC, or other government cloud environments
Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar automation platforms
Experience improving developer productivity through tooling, automation, and standardized environments
Experience working in Agile development environments
Experience with configuration management and collaboration tools such as Git, JIRA, Collaborator, Beyond Compare, or VersionOne
Experience leading technical tasks, platform initiatives, or mentoring junior engineers
