About this position:
Lake Michigan Insurance Agency (LMIA), owned by Lake Michigan Credit Union, is seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused Benefits Account Manager to support and service employee benefits clients. In this role, you will manage a portfolio of employee benefit accounts, coordinate renewals, support enrollment activities, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and serve as a trusted resource for clients and carrier partners. The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, and passionate about delivering exceptional customer service while helping clients navigate their benefits programs.
What You'll Do:
Client Service & Account Management
- Serve as the primary contact for employee benefits clients, responding to day-to-day service inquiries and resolving issues.
- Provide ongoing support related to employee benefit plans, enrollment questions, coverage verification, policy changes, and carrier communications.
- Assist clients with employee additions, terminations, dependent updates, and other policy maintenance activities.
- Build strong relationships through responsive and professional client service.
Renewal Management & Implementation
- Coordinate annual benefit renewals and market plans to carriers.
- Gather census data, claims experience, utilization reports, and other renewal information.
- Create spreadsheets, proposals, and benefit comparisons to support client decision-making.
- Manage onboarding activities for new benefit plans and carrier implementations.
Compliance & Administrative Support
- Review plan documents, applications, and benefit summaries for accuracy and compliance.
- Support compliance efforts related to state and federal regulations, including ERISA requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation within AMS360 and other agency systems.
- Track account activity and assist with underwriting and carrier requests.
Communication & Team Collaboration
- Present benefit plan updates and explain coverage changes to clients and employees.
- Facilitate enrollment meetings, presentations, and virtual webinars.
- Collaborate closely with Producers, Account Executives, carriers, and internal partners.
- Support department initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned.
Compliance & Operational Excellence
- Ensure all activities comply with agency policies, carrier requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) requirements.

What You'll Bring
Experience
- 1-3 years of employee benefits, insurance account management, customer service, or related experience preferred.
- 3-5 years of insurance or employee benefits experience strongly preferred.
Education & Licensing
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree, completion of a specialized business or trade school program (approximately 64 credit hours), or equivalent experience preferred.
- Active Life & Health Insurance License required.
Skills & Attributes

Technical Skills
- Experience with agency management systems and insurance carrier platforms.
- AMS360 experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
