Located in our Dallas, TX corporate headquarters, the Sr. Director, Property Tax will play an integral role in managing all real and business property tax functions for the more than one-hundred counties Invitation Homes currently operates and overseeing the company’s property tax strategy.  The position will be pivotal in developing new appeal strategies, developing relationships with local and state officials, and overseeing relationships with external legal and consulting teams. This position will be responsible for overseeing all property tax functions related to wholly owned properties, JV properties, and managed properties.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of professionals including Analyst, Property Tax, and, either through matrix or directly, analytical resources on the team.

  • Working in collaboration with Operations, Accounting, Asset Management, Technology, and other cross-function partners, to assist in all budgeting and forecasting processes, including annual budget and quarterly reforecasts.

  • Manage all third-party vendor contracts and budgeting associated with Property Tax.

  • Oversee the property tax function:

    • Develop annual budget and any updated forecasting of property taxes

    • Oversee relationship with third-party vendors responsible for compliance and payments

    • Oversee monthly accruals

    • Approve property tax payments

    • Oversee property tax appeal process

  • Develop long term property tax strategy and roadmap, including technology and data

  • Develop and manage relationships with state and local property tax officials

  • Responsible for development, training, and oversight of property tax analysts, associates, and mangers.

  • Perform monthly and quarterly variance analyses for actuals vs. budget/forecast and current period vs. prior period.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with, and credibility among, key stakeholders within each functional area of the Company’s business.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field and strong academic record required.  Advanced degree (MBA, Masters in Accounting, or similar) is a plus, but not required.

  • CFA and/or CPA designation, or progress towards either, is a plus.

  • Minimum of 8 years’ real estate industry experience required.  Experience with single-family rental or multifamily properties (ideally within a REIT structure) preferred.

  • Familiarity and proficiency with Yardi preferred.

  • Familiarity with technology / business intelligence tools and applications such as Tableau, SSRS Reporting, Anaplan, and OLAP cubes a plus.

  • Proven history of implementing best practices around management reporting systems and processes.

  • Ability to be at work on a regular and consistent basis; Overtime may be required for this position. 

Physical and Mental Demands

This position will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. The position may also entail light lifting of supplies and materials occasionally, up to and including 20 pounds in addition to reaching, stooping, standing, and walking. This position requires the ability to talk, hear, compare, compute, compile, copy, analyze, coordinate, synthesize, negotiate and communicate. Work Environment

Standard office working environment that may be busy and noisy at times. Hybrid options available. 

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is: $130,312.50 - $225,875.00, plus individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, location, and applicable employment laws.
