Description
Although this position will be designated under the department’s hybrid workplace program, it will still be required to report to the department office on a scheduled basis and at the discretion of the supervisor, based on business need.
The salary range posted for this position is $4,719 - $6,130/monthly; although a salary range is listed, hiring salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

The Division of Professions and Occupations (DPO) protects consumers in the state of Colorado through licensing and regulatory enforcement for approximately 50 professions, occupations, and businesses, and the corollary regulatory environment.
This work unit exists to protect consumers through regulation of the Division's director model professions and occupations, and now includes the regulation of mortuary science professionals, by ensuring minimal statutory standards and coordinating the disciplinary process to enforce the statutory requirements according to the Administrative Procedure Act, the relevant practice act(s), and as otherwise set forth in Colorado Revised Statutes. This work unit focuses on supporting the Funeral and Mortuary Science Services and Nontransplant Tissue Banks programs, Program Director, and the Division by accomplishing the strategic measures of the Division, including improving customer service, reducing fees, and protecting consumers.
Position: SJA 9830
This position further exists to protect consumers while avoiding undue burden on Colorado's licensees/registrants. As such, this position works to support several program areas and the Division. This position moves complaints through the disciplinary process according to Division and Program rules and policies while providing procedural oversight of disciplinary actions to ensure appropriate, effective enforcement and communication. This position is responsible for analyzing and prioritizing application processing, complaints, inspections, enforcement, and compliance, as well as assisting with creating and maintaining efficient workflows for processing disciplinary actions and preparing case information. This position, working with guidance from the Program Director and/or Senior staff, assists with establishing goals for the program unit, developing metrics with which to measure progress towards meeting those goals and reports on this progress at approved intervals. This position accurately implements Program decisions in a timely manner, supports the Program Director in the maintenance and review of examination contracts, application processing, and records management.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing and distributing complaint materials in packets for review while consolidating and appropriately distributing any response materials received as a result of complaint letters issued;
- Notifying licensees, applicants, consumers, and complainants of pertinent Director decisions, which often entails explaining the case management process and how the final determination was made for the case;
- Reviewing disciplinary decisions and comparing/analyzing them to ensure consistency across cases;
- Reviewing complaints submitted by complainants and deciding if priority action is needed to protect the public based on the allegations and available information – which includes deciding what supplemental information is needed (e.g. subpoena documents, police reports, additional information from the complainant, etc.) to aide in the decision about priority actions;
- Deciding on the need for mental/physical health evaluations on a case-by-case basis and issuing orders accordingly, which includes determining what information is needed to assess the need for a mental/physical evaluation, along with determining the required timeline for the respondent to obtain the evaluation;
- Providing support with general operational matters, which includes ensuring that accurate and complete agendas, notices, presentation materials, minutes, and packets are prepared, delivered, documented and retained according to Division standards and statutory requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (MQs):
There are two ways to qualify for this position: 1) Experience OR 2) A Combination of Education and Experience.
Option 1: Experience
- Four (4) years of general clerical experience, which must include all of the following:
Option 2: A Combination of Education AND Experience
- Associate’s Degree and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in accounting, business administration, economics, public health, healthcare administration, finance, public administration, statistics, or closely related field; AND
- Two (2) years of general clerical experience, which must include all of the following:

- Bachelor’s Degree and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, economics, public health, healthcare administration, finance, public administration, statistics, or closely related field.

SUBSTITUTIONS:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, public administration, healthcare administration, public health, or in a field of study directly related to the work assignment may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a field of study related to the work assignment;
- Regulatory enforcement and/or compliance monitoring experience;
- Researching, developing and implementing processes and/or procedures that comply with statutes, rules, regulations, or otherwise previously established criteria;
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with professional and occupational licensure policies and statutes;
- Experience updating and utilizing databases, including performing data entry;
- Experience utilizing databases, including compiling, updating, analyzing, and tracking data;
- Case management experience, either working with an application-related process or a complaint-driven process;
- Experience educating customers/consumers, including providing them with accurate, thorough, and easily understandable information regarding their potential avenues for action and/or recourse.
