Position Overview
GableTek is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer / Mechanical Design Engineer to support custom automation and automated assembly projects in Holland, Michigan.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing custom automated machinery, assembly equipment, robotic systems, and special-purpose machines. This position will take mechanical designs from initial concept and layout through detailed design, manufacturing release, build, and validation.
Experience with Creo Parametric is strongly preferred, although candidates with strong SolidWorks experience will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom automated assembly equipment, production machinery, and industrial automation systems.
- Develop mechanical concepts, machine layouts, detailed assemblies, and component designs from initial requirements through final release.
- Create detailed manufacturing drawings, BOMs, specifications, and supporting engineering documentation.
- Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, component sizing, and mechanical evaluations.
- Select and integrate mechanical, pneumatic, motion control, and automation components.
- Apply GD&T, DFM, and sound machine-design principles throughout the design process.
- Support equipment build, prototype development, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and customer demonstrations.
- Participate in formal design reviews and incorporate feedback from Project Engineers and other stakeholders.
- Work closely with manufacturing, controls engineering, systems integration, suppliers, and project teams.
- Ensure equipment designs meet requirements for safety, functionality, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
- Maintain accurate revisions and engineering changes through the design lifecycle.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting aggressive project schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 3+ years of mechanical design experience involving custom automation, automated assembly equipment, robotics, special machines, or industrial machinery.
- Proficiency with Creo Parametric preferred; strong SolidWorks experience will also be considered.
- Experience with Windchill PDM/PLM or similar engineering data-management systems.
- Strong understanding of mechanical machine design and automated assembly systems.
- Knowledge of pneumatic and mechanical systems, motion-control components, and component selection.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, tolerance analysis, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Ability to independently execute complete machine designs with minimal supervision.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams.
