Description


Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the ability to quickly become proficient in internal systems, work independently and have great attention to detail. It is essential that the candidate have excellent communication skills.
- Prepares, processes, verifies, and reviews forms, schedules, records, reports, lists, and other legal documents for completeness and conformance with established regulations and procedures.
- Types, formats, and proofreads a wide variety of legal correspondence, reports, letters, and memoranda such as briefs, petitions, motions, and affidavits; types from rough drafts, verbal instructions, or transcribing machine recordings; transcribes taped interviews; checks drafts for punctuation, spelling, and grammar; makes or suggests corrections to drafts.
- Composes routine letters or other correspondence.
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Legal Secretary I/II:- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by education and/or training in secretarial skills or relevant computer software applications programs.
- One (1) year of varied clerical support experience preferably involving support to attorneys, court officers, or law enforcement personnel.
Legal Secretary II:
In addition to the above, two (2) years of legal secretarial support experience equivalent to that of a Legal Secretary I in a public agency.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
License & Special Requirements:
- A valid California Class C driver’s license or alternative form of transportation may be required for some positions at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
The department is recruiting for one (1) vacancy.
In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future full-time vacancies for a Legal Secretary I/II, as well as subsequent vacancies, which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
