Appointment: Part-time, Non-Exempt (20 hours/week)

Summary

The Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator will be directly responsible for leading outreach and recruitment efforts for the K-16 Software Engineering Pathway program. This innovative program is designed through a strategic partnership with school districts in Riverside County and Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC), aiming to support high school and community college students in Riverside as they transition to California State University San Marcos (CSUSM)’s Software Engineering program.

As the principal outreach and recruitment lead for the Software Engineering Pathway program, the Coordinator is responsible for rigorous ongoing assessment of outreach efforts, tracking recruitment performance, providing admissions and program information, responding to inquiries, evaluating and processing admissions applications as well as implementing improvements to enhance student transfer rates from Riverside County high schools and MSJC to CSUSM’s software engineering degree program.

This is a grant-funded, part-time position. Position is based at the Temecula campus. Hybrid schedule is an option.

Qualifications

    • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a 4-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
    • Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of 3-years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
      • A master’s degree in Education, Counseling or a directly related field may be substituted for 1-year of experience.
    • Core Skills/Competencies
      • Exceptional Communication Skills: Demonstrate strong oral and written communication abilities to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including students, educators, administrators, and community leaders.
      • Goal-Oriented and Self-Motivated: Exhibit a proactive approach to meeting outreach and enrollment objectives, with strong personal initiative and effective time management.
      • Professional Judgment: Make thoughtful recommendations and resolve complex student issues related to application and registration, balancing student-centered service with institutional enrollment goals.
      • Collaborative Spirit: Work closely with internal and external partners—including student organizations, social/cultural groups, and business entities—to promote the Software Engineering Pathway program and CSUSM offerings.

    Other Employment Requirements:

    The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect
    Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21,
    2017 as a condition of employment.

    Mandated Reporter Classification = Limited Reporter

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      • Program-Focused Outreach: Take ownership of outreach activities specifically for the K-16 Software Engineering Pathway program, engaging with students at high schools and community colleges throughout Riverside County, as well as with district administrators and MSJC representatives.
      • Recruitment Leadership: Develop and implement strategic recruitment initiatives to attract and inform prospective students about the pathway to CSUSM’s software engineering degree. This includes delivering presentations, attending local and regional events, and coordinating with educational partners.
      • Relationship Building: Establish and strengthen connections with school district officials, MSJC staff, faculty, university administrators, and local businesses to facilitate student participation and program awareness.
      • Student Support and Communication: Respond to inquiries regarding program details, university application procedures, and registration processes. Communicate with students and families via written correspondence, phone calls, and text messages to provide guidance and support throughout their journey.
      • Recruitment Strategy Assessment: Regularly assess and evaluate recruitment outcomes for the Software Engineering Pathway program and make data-driven adjustments to enhance effectiveness and meet enrollment targets.

        Supervision

        Position may provide direction to student assistants.

        Latitude and Judgment:

        Position will have no authority to hire and terminate employees. Errors in judgment may result in poor service to and reputation with the University community.

        • The work environment will include normal office conditions and daily use of a computer Visual Display Terminal (VDT).
