Description

Description

We are growing our Behavioral Health Services team and are looking for an experienced Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) Supervisor who understands that effective treatment is rarely one-size-fits-all.

This role is ideal for someone who has strong clinical fundamentals but knows that real-world practice often requires flexibility, creativity, and the ability to adapt in the moment. The individuals we serve are often navigating multiple barriers simultaneously—substance use, homelessness, untreated mental health conditions, trauma, medical concerns, poverty, justice-system involvement, and unstable support systems. Needs can change hour to hour, sometimes minute to minute. We're not looking for someone who relies exclusively on a textbook approach. We're looking for someone who can walk into a shelter, supportive housing program, medical respite setting, or community-based program and assess what is needed in that moment—while still maintaining clinical integrity, regulatory compliance, and evidence-based practices

As a SUDP Supervisor, you'll provide clinical leadership and supervision while helping shape an integrated behavioral health program that meets people where they are. You'll work alongside another SUDP Supervisor and multidisciplinary teams to strengthen services across youth, young adult, adult, veteran, and housing programs.

Requirements

What Makes This Role Different

Many clinical leadership roles operate within highly structured treatment settings.

This one doesn't.

Our programs are intentionally designed to serve individuals who may not fit traditional treatment models and this role is for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and building systems that work for real people living real lives.

Clinical Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide clinical supervision to SUDPs, SUDPTs and peer support specialists
  • Conduct regular individual and group supervision sessions
  • Support staff development through coaching, mentorship, and professional growth planning
  • Review and co-sign clinical documentation as required
  • Provide consultation and crisis support to direct service staff
  • Assist with onboarding and training new clinicians
  • Maintain a limited caseload to stay connected to service delivery
  • Support integrated treatment approaches for individuals with co-occurring conditions
  • Help strengthen and expand integrated behavioral health services
  • Support implementation of trauma-informed and harm reduction programming
  • Partner with behavioral health, housing, medical, and social service teams
  • Coordinate care with community providers and referral partners
  • Support whole-person care approaches across VOA programs
  • Ensure documentation meets Washington State DOH, Medicaid, and agency standards
  • Maintain professional ethics, boundaries, and confidentiality

Who We Are Looking For

This role is a strong fit for someone who:

  • Are self-directed and comfortable working independently
  • Thrives in environments where every day looks different
  • Can adapt clinical approaches to meet varying participant needs
  • Is comfortable making sound decisions in complex situations
  • Understands that engagement often comes before treatment
  • Leads with curiosity, humility, and clinical confidence
  • Can coach staff through uncertainty and complexity
  • Values collaboration more than hierarchy
  • Balances accountability with compassion

Most importantly, you're someone who understands that effective treatment is not about forcing clients into a model—it's about using your expertise to help the model work for the client.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active Washington State Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) credential
  • Bachelor's degree in Addiction Studies, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
  • Minimum two years of experience providing substance use disorder treatment services
  • Minimum one year of supervisory, leadership, or clinical oversight experience
  • Experience serving individuals with co-occurring disorders and complex social needs
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction practices
  • Ability to meet Washington State requirements for clinical supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong understanding of low-barrier service models

Benefits

  • Competitive salaried leadership position
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance (approximately $12,000–$15,000 annual value)
  • Employer-paid life insurance and long-term disability (approximately $1,500–$2,500 annual value)
  • Generous PTO, including vacation and sick leave
  • 8 paid holidays plus up to 5 floating holidays
  • 403(b) retirement plan
  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)-eligible employer
  • Ongoing professional development and leadership training
  • Free electric vehicle charging at our main location

Why Join VOA?

Volunteers of America Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho provides housing, behavioral health, shelter, and supportive services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, instability, and other significant life challenges.

We believe effective behavioral health services require more than clinical expertise. They require adaptability, creativity, humility, and a willingness to meet people where they are.

If you're an experienced SUDP who can balance clinical excellence with real-world flexibility—and enjoy helping staff grow while building innovative services—we'd love to talk with you.
