Job Description
Purpose:
We are currently recruiting for an Instructional Designer level I or II. Compensation and classification is based on the analyses of the following qualifications during the recruitment process.
The Instructional Designer I collaborates with faculty and subject matter experts (SMEs) to help design, develop, and build high-quality hybrid, and online learning experiences. The position serves as a learner-centered consulting partner, helping faculty translate their instructional goals and teaching philosophy into clear, engaging, accessible, and effective courses.
Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all course model, the Instructional Designer I listens for what faculty value in their teaching and offers multiple evidence-informed design options appropriate to the learners, discipline, content, and instructional setting. The ID I offers faculty recommendations on instructional design principles, course-quality standards, accessibility practices, and sound project-management methods throughout the course-development process. The Instructional Designer I plans, designs, develops, inspects, and edits digitally-accessible instructional content such as documents and videos.
This is an on-site position in College Station, TX.
Responsibilities:
Faculty and SME Partnership
- Assists faculty and SMEs with the design, development, revision, and evaluation of classroom, hybrid, and online courses and instructional materials.

- Contributes design ideas and alternatives appropriate to course goals and learner needs. Explains how recommendations align with evidence-informed practices while supporting the instructor's teaching philosophy, disciplinary expertise, and voice.
Instructional Design, Content Mapping, Building and Assessment
- Assists SMEs with analyzing and organizing content into logical concepts, processes, tasks, decisions, prerequisites, and learning sequences. Identifies potential gaps, redundancies, assumptions, dependencies, and areas of learner confusion.
- Helps SMEs distinguish among knowledge that learners need to acquire, tasks they need to perform, and decisions or judgments they need to make.
- Assists in developing assessment approaches that support intended learning outcomes, including assessment type, placement, feedback opportunities, and frequency. Helps maintain alignment among learning objectives, content, activities, practice, and assessments.
Learner Experience, Accessibility, and Course Quality
- Considers the learner perspective throughout course design and review activities.
- Incorporates digital accessibility into course design and development activities. Reviews and helps create instructional materials consistent with applicable ADA requirements and WCAG standards.
- Applies established course-quality rubrics and frameworks to review course materials and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Supports the development of accessible, learner-centered teaching and learning experiences.
Project Management & Course Development
- Participates in course-design consultations, design reviews, and development meetings; prepares and maintains course outlines, design documents, production plans, storyboards, scripts, and other project documentation as appropriate.

- Coordinates assigned aspects of multiple course-development projects by tracking progress, communicating updates, and supporting collaboration among faculty, SMEs, and production partners.
- Assists with the production of videos, documents, and assessments, including editing, captioning, and accessibility implementation.
Production Guidance, Training, and Innovation
- Works effectively within learning management systems and applies working knowledge of video-editing and multimedia-production concepts to support course development.
- Provides guidance and support to instructional assistants on assigned course-production tasks; communicates requirements, demonstrates processes, reviews completed work, and offers constructive feedback.
