Senior Mechanical Designer, Field Service Technician

Description

 / A Mechanical Designer drafts and designs mechanical and/or electromechanical subassemblies used in the thermal processing of specialty materials.

/ A Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation, coordination, supervision, start up, trouble shooting and operation of Remelt products and equipment worldwide. They identify, analyze and repair products and equipment at a customer’s location.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

/ Works independently or collaboratively to develop design concepts, detailed designs, and detailed fabrication drawings that fulfill contractual obligations, projects schedules, and company goals. 

/ Checks design and drafting work prior to Project Engineer approval to ensure requirements are satisfied. 

/ Works closely with the Project Engineer to solve problems that may arise during any phase of the project. 

/ Performs a substantial amount of 3D CAD modeling and 2D detailing work for individual parts and assemblies.

/ Install, test, repair, modify and update Retech and other equipment.

/ Provide maintenance, preventive maintenance, and upgrades in customer facilities, as well as emergency service.

/ Provide superior customer service both in person and remotely through a variety of mediums.

/ Train customers in proper operation, maintenance, and safety of equipment.

/ Provide support to customers as required.

/ Build customer relationships through positive and productive communication, guidance, training, and feedback.

/ Document customer communications, equipment issues, service reports, service reports and other required documentation.

/ Provide clear directions to subcontract or customer supplied workforce to execute project responsibilities that include welding, assembly, testing, and operation of equipment and systems while ensuring a safe and efficient job site.

/ Report any unsafe situations, work environments, and potential conditions that could bring harm to employees to both Retech and the customer location.

/ Cooperate with the customer in resolving the unsafe situation so the work on site may continue.

/ Plan flow of materials through installation and commissioning phase of the project. 

/ Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

/ Strong working knowledge of CAD software e.g., Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical, Mechanical Desktop, and similar CAD platforms. 

/ Strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

/ Strong understanding of manufacturing concepts used in the fabrication and assembly of industrial assemblies, weldments, and detail parts. 

/ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, project requirements documents, and procedure manuals. 

/ Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 

/ Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 

/ Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 

/ Working knowledge of materials suitable for use in high temperature, corrosive environments.

/ Requires use of basic hand tools not supplied by the company.

/ Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex electrical and mechanical systems. 

/ Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft software (Office, Outlook, Operating System, etc.). 

/ Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical assembly drawings. 

/ Experience with industrial schematics or P&IDs.

Education and Experience:

/ Associate’s degree in design or equivalent.

/ 10 years’ experience as a mechanical designer or similar role, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

/ 3 years’ experience installing, commissioning, testing, operating, and troubleshooting large capital equipment, preferably controlled atmosphere melting systems, or other metallurgical processing systems.

Physical Demands:

/ The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, hear and talk.

/ The employee occasionally will be required to reach with hands or arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. 

/ The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

/ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.

/ The work environment varies based on customer demand for this position. 

/ The Senior Mechanical Designer, Field Service Technician, is expected to travel for 2-3 months out of the year.
