Description
Primary responsibilities of the Department System Analyst include:
PACS Administration & System Management
- Administer, maintain, and support the organization’s PACS, enterprise imaging, and associated imaging applications.
- Manage PACS configuration, user access, roles, permissions, and security.
- Monitor PACS performance, storage capacity, system availability, and interfaces.
- Troubleshoot PACS issues and coordinate resolution with vendors, Information Technology, and modality/application teams.
- Perform system upgrades, patches, configuration changes, and testing in accordance with organizational change-management processes.
- Maintain PACS documentation, system configurations, workflows, and downtime procedures.
- Monitor image routing, transmission, storage, and retrieval to ensure timely availability of diagnostic images
DICOM & Interface Management
- Support DICOM connectivity between imaging modalities, PACS, RIS, EMR/EHR, and other clinical systems.
- Troubleshoot DICOM communication, modality worklist, routing, and image transmission issues.
- Work with interface teams and vendors to resolve HL7/DICOM integration issues.
- Validate new modalities, applications, and interfaces before implementation into the production environment.
- Monitor and resolve studies that fail to transmit, route, or reconcile appropriately.
Clinical Imaging Workflow Support
- Collaborate with Radiology, Cardiology, and other clinical departments to optimize imaging workflows.
- Investigate image-quality, workflow, reconciliation, and accessibility issues reported by end users.
- Support radiologists, technologists, sonographers, cardiologists, and other clinical users with PACS-related issues.
- Participate in implementation of new imaging equipment, applications, and enterprise-imaging initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve imaging workflow efficiency, turnaround time, and system reliability.
Project & Vendor Management
- Serve as a technical resource for PACS-related projects and implementations.
- Coordinate with vendors, IT, clinical departments, and leadership to resolve system issues.
- Participate in system upgrades, migrations, integrations, and new technology implementations.
- Track vendor tickets and ensure timely escalation and resolution of critical issues.
- Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements based on operational needs.
Ideal Candidate will have:
- 3–5 years of experience supporting PACS, RIS, enterprise imaging, or healthcare imaging systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of DICOM and HL7 standards and healthcare system interfaces.
- Experience supporting PACS environments in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of radiology and/or cardiology imaging workflows.
- Experience troubleshooting modality connectivity, DICOM transmission, worklists, routing, and image reconciliation.
- Understanding of HIPAA, information security, and healthcare data privacy requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clinical, IT, vendor, and administrative teams.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond appropriately to high-priority clinical system issues.
The Ideal candidate will also possess the following Preferred qualifications:
- ARRT certification or clinical imaging background.
- Certification or formal training in healthcare informatics, PACS administration, or enterprise imaging.
- Experience with major PACS/RIS platforms and enterprise imaging systems.
- Experience with IHE profiles, DICOM networking, HL7 interfaces, and modality integration.
- Experience with SQL/database querying and basic scripting.
- Experience with cloud-based imaging or vendor-neutral archives (VNA).
- Experience with cybersecurity principles related to medical devices and clinical applications.
- Project management experience.
- Experience participating in PACS migrations, implementations, upgrades, or enterprise imaging initiatives.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Participate in the modification of existing systems and/or the implementation of new systems by developing, writing and disseminating procedures that utilize new or changed system applications; and by evaluating system deadlines. modifications in response to operational, program and/or regulatory changes.
- Receive requests for assistance related to the use of department and/or program systems and software applications; determine severity of problem and resolve or refer to appropriate personnel or vendor for resolution.
- Participate in a variety of system user and work groups to identify user needs and operational, programmatic and/or regulatory changes affecting application requirements and other related issues.
- Interact with vendors, outside agencies, auditors and other staff regarding requests for data or special reports.
- Provide or arrange for the training of staff on the information systems used by the department and/or program; requests adhoc reports.
- Perform system administration functions including monitoring applications, adding and deleting users, modifying user profiles, re-setting passwords and file maintenance.
- Maintain a variety of departmental and/or program databases, files and records; queries and generates reports on a scheduled and adhoc basis.
- Prepare and track requests to information technology staff, vendors and/or service providers for routine system changes and reports.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Skill/Ability to:
- Provide technical and analytical support to users of department systems and applications.
- Communicate with department personnel to identify and translate information needs into system requirements.
- Communicate departmental information system needs to system providers for the design, development and/or enhancement of system applications.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of newly developed systems and/or applications.
- Develop and present comprehensive training materials.
- Analyze administrative and management problems, evaluate alternatives, reach sound conclusions and effectively implement changes.
- Prepare clear, concise and accurate documentation, instructions, correspondence and other written materials.
- Organize work, set priorities and meet critical deadlines.
- Maintain accurate records and files.
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with major coursework in public administration, business administration, information systems, or closely related field.
Experience: Three years of responsible experience in a position that would provide knowledge of department-specific programs, processes and/or operations, including at least one year of experience in the planning, implementation, oversight and/or utilization of automated information systems and applications used to support departmental activities.
Physical Requirements:
- Sits for extended periods of time on a consistent and daily basis; stands, walks, and reaches by extending hands and arms in any direction on an occasional to frequent basis.
- Uses finger dexterity to pick, pinch and type; on a consistent and daily basis; and occasionally grasp objects with fingers and palms.
- Communicates verbally by listening and talking on a consistent and daily basis.
