SUMMARY: Installs, configures, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs computer hardware and software systems. Provides technical assistance and support to system users, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and connectivity issues. Utilizes working knowledge of computer hardware, software, operating systems, and related technologies to perform system, installation, configuration and set-up. Troubleshoots network connectivity and performance issues; installs, configures, tests, and maintains network lines and related infrastructure; runs and terminates network cabling.
REPORTS TO: The Microcomputer Specialist reports directly to the Network Operations Manager and provides desktop support and technical assistance within the organization under the direction of the Assistant Director and Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Monitors and responds to help desk requests or service tickets, updates troubleshooting documents, knowledge base, and tracks issues through resolution.
Installs, configures, upgrades, and maintains operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, and other supported software applications.
Installs, configures, upgrades, and maintains microcomputer hardware and peripheral equipment, including monitors, keyboards, printers, scanners, docking stations, storage devices, and other related equipment.
Provides technical assistance and support to system users in person, by telephone, electronically, or through other appropriate methods concerning computer hardware, software, peripheral equipment, and system operation.
Installs, runs, terminates, labels, and tests network cabling and installs and configures network jacks and related connectivity equipment.
Sets up and deploys new computers and user workstations, including imaging, configuration, application installation, peripheral setup, and connectivity testing.
Assists with the deployment, relocation, replacement, and upgrade of computer equipment, peripherals,software, and network connections.
Troubleshoots printers and other peripheral devices, including connectivity, driver, configuration, and hardware issues.
Configures software and system settings and performs testing to verify proper system operation,functionality, and compatibility.
Verifies computer equipment, hardware components, peripherals, and software received against purchase orders, packing lists, other documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Instructs and assists users in the proper operation and use of computer equipment, software applications,operating systems, and related technology.
Tests and validates newly installed or repaired equipment and software before returning systems to users.
Performs hardware upgrades and equipment replacements in accordance with established standards and specifications.
Maintains current knowledge of supported hardware, software, operating systems, Microsoft products,networking technologies, and related computer technology.
Diagnoses and troubleshoots hardware, software, operating system, peripheral, and user-related problems;determines the cause of problems and recommends or performs appropriate corrective actions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 1) Associates degree from an accredited two-year college or university in a technology-related field, plus one year of experience in the information technology field preferred, or 2) High School or GED plus three years related experience and training.
At least one year of experience in the information technology field must have included: installation of hardware and peripheral components; familiarity with software packages, including their installation; diagnosis of problems; and exposure to networking.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, may be considered for current Nueces County employees only.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: (Communication Skills) Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Can write reports,business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Possess the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be well versed in currently supported versions of Microsoft operating systems. A working knowledge of at least one high level PC development language is desirable. Must have experience with a variety of off-the-shelf software including spreadsheets, databases, e-mail and word processors, etc. Ability to write new PC-based applications, and experience in diagnosing PC and network problems is preferred. Experience in networking is desirable.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Texas Motor Vehicle Operator's License. The following professional certifications are preferred: 1) CompTIA A+ Certification; 2) Microsoft Office Specialist Certification; 3) Google IT Support Certificate 4) Cisco Certified Support Technician; 5) Telecommunications Industry Association and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standards.
