Housing & Food Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Custodian to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to Custodian Supervisor, the Custodian is responsible for performing custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of facilities and providing customer service for residential students and conferees.

 

Key Responsibilities

Custodial Services (80%)

• Perform routine and periodic cleaning, sanitizing, and maintenance of residence halls, restrooms, shower facilities, common areas, kitchens, stairwells, elevators, windows, and other assigned spaces.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and maintain floors, furniture, fixtures, and surfaces.
• Perform specialized floor care, including stripping, buffing, polishing, and carpet cleaning.
• Operate and maintain custodial equipment and tools.
• Replenish supplies and ensure facilities meet cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and appearance standards.
• Follow established safety procedures and guidelines for the use of chemicals, equipment, and supplies.

Facilities Support (15%)

• Prepare residential and conference facilities for occupancy and turnover, including room readiness, bed preparation, linen distribution, and inventory management.
• Set up and remove furnishings and equipment for meetings, conferences, and events.
• Maintain exterior areas adjacent to facilities by removing debris, snow, and other hazards.
• Operate University vehicles to transport supplies, equipment, and materials between locations.

Security & Reporting (5%)

• Conduct facility security checks and report unauthorized occupants, safety concerns, and facility issues.
• Identify and report maintenance and repair needs.
• Maintain basic records and reports related to assigned work.

Preferred Qualifications

Competitive candidates will possess experience that demonstrates:

• Experience in custodial, housekeeping, or related facilities maintenance work.

• Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal instructions in English.

• Strong customer service, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities and schedules.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

• Valid Washington State driver's license.

 

Working Conditions

• Custodians may be assigned to work in a residence hall, apartment complex, office/work area or UW Dining facility. 

• Mandatory Overtime required twice a year over weekend days

• Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions and communicate in English regarding the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.

• A valid Washington State Driver's License may be required.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$45,144.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$50,736.00 annual
