Job Description Summary

The Opportunity:

Some sales roles fill a quota. This one shapes the future of American energy.

As Utility Sales Director at GE Vernova, you will own some of the most strategically important customer relationships in North American wind — leading large, complex transactions, setting account strategy, and positioning GE Vernova as an indispensable long-term partner to the utilities and energy companies building tomorrow's grid. This is a senior standalone commercial role with full accountability for orders, margin, and cash flow across your assigned portfolio, and the autonomy to run it like a business.

The portfolio will primarily include utility customers, with potential for select independent power producers (IPPs), developers, or other strategic accounts based on business needs. Depending on organizational structure, this role may also include direct reports.

Job Description

What You'll Do

Account Strategy & Customer Leadership

  • Own the full commercial strategy, account plans, pipeline, forecast, and annual orders and cash commitments for your assigned portfolio.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior and executive customer leaders — maintaining consistent engagement well beyond individual transactions and establishing GE Vernova as a long-term strategic partner.
  • Serve as a utility industry thought partner: apply deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks, rate cases, integrated resource planning (IRP), procurement processes, project economics, and risk allocation to shape customer strategy and tailor commercial solutions.
  • Identify and develop account expansion opportunities — including new business units, service territories, and adjacent opportunities within existing relationships.

Commercial Execution & Deal Leadership

  • Mobilize and lead cross-functional deal teams to set transaction strategy, resolve commercial trade-offs, and structure, negotiate, and close large, complex contracts — including transactions of $100 million or more.
  • Translate portfolio strategy into account-specific pricing, positioning, and deal structures that reflect each customer's regulatory environment and procurement process.
  • Oversee studies, estimates, formal offerings, and customer requests to re-profile or renegotiate existing agreements across your portfolio.
  • Drive achievement of commercial commitments across orders, margin, and cash flow.

Market Intelligence & Cross-Business Growth

  • Monitor regulatory developments, procurement trends, and competitor activity — translating insights into pricing, product, and planning recommendations for the business.
  • Partner with global sales counterparts and adjacent GE Vernova businesses to identify and grow cross-business opportunities within your accounts.

People Leadership (where applicable)

  • Coach, mentor, and develop Sales Managers and other commercial colleagues while maintaining direct ownership of strategic relationships and complex transactions.
  • Manage performance, support talent development, and deploy your team effectively across accounts and priorities.

Who You Are

You are a senior commercial leader with deep utility industry expertise, executive presence, and a track record of winning business that matters — someone who earns the trust of customer executives, leads teams through complex negotiations, and thrives in high-stakes, long-cycle sales environments.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in business, engineering, finance, economics, analytics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive sales experience with a demonstrated track record of closing large, complex, multi-year transactions — including deals of $100 million or more
  • 50% travel based on business needs
  • Demonstrated experience in the utility, independent power producer (IPP), developer, or regulated energy sector

Preferred qualifications

  • Midwest US / Chicago location preferred
  • Deep expertise in the utility industry: regulatory frameworks, rate cases, integrated resource planning, procurement processes, project economics, and financing
  • Demonstrated success with consultative, insight-led selling — the ability to challenge customer thinking, shape project strategy, and be viewed as a trusted senior advisor
  • Established network and credibility within the North American utility, IPP, developer, or comparable energy sector
  • Deep understanding of wind or comparable markets for large, capital-intensive equipment, including competitor positioning
  • Strong, fact-based negotiation skills — able to construct and defend deal terms using data, regulatory insight, and financial analysis
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional deal teams, build internal consensus, and develop commercial talent
  • Disciplined pipeline and forecast management using Salesforce or an equivalent customer relationship management (CRM) platform
  • Strong executive presence and business acumen — a genuine senior partner to customer leadership
