Job Description:
Build your career with Pape-Dawson’s Nashville team in the heart of Music City, one of the country’s most vibrant, fast-growing, and exciting places to live and work. Formerly RaganSmith, our Tennessee team traces its roots back to 1933 and has grown from a land surveying company into a multidisciplinary consulting firm of civil engineers, landscape architects, transportation professionals, surveyors, and land planners. Since joining the Pape-Dawson family of companies in 2024, the team has continued to build on its deep local legacy while gaining the resources and reach of a leading national firm.
Overview:
The CAD Technician II provides intermediate-level drafting and design support for land development projects across multiple disciplines. This role works with limited supervision to prepare, revise, and coordinate construction documents, exhibits, and technical graphics in compliance with company standards and applicable agency requirements. The CAD Technician II demonstrates increasing independence, technical proficiency, and the ability to review their own work for accuracy and completeness.
Core Responsibilities:
- Prepare and revise construction plans, profiles, and project exhibits for commercial, residential, and site development projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Analyze sketches, notes, and input materials to determine the most effective drafting approach with minimal supervision.
- Coordinate with engineers, designers, and project managers to meet project objectives and deadlines.
- Develop construction documents from engineer markups, sketches, notes, and redlines with increasing independence.
- Apply established company CAD drafting standards to ensure consistency in layers, line styles, symbols, and sheet layouts.
- Incorporate QA/QC procedures and applicable agency checklist requirements to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance.
- Review own work for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements prior to submission.
- Assist engineers with preparation of technical documentation, exhibits, and deliverables.
- Coordinate and communicate with engineers, designers, and project managers to support project objectives and schedules.
- Maintain organized project files to support efficient team collaboration and accessibility of information.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or certificate in Computer-Aided Drafting/Design, Applied Science, or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of experience preparing civil, transportation, structural, utility, or aviation construction documents using CAD software.
- Proficiency in discipline-appropriate CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads, OpenBridge); software requirements may vary by assignment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing assignments and project priorities.
- Ability to operate a company vehicle and travel occasionally, if required by assignment.
- Ability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with overtime as needed.
