Position Summary

The Electromechanical Assembly Technician Team Lead builds, wires, configures, calibrates, and tests industrial measurement systems while coordinating daily work and training technicians. The role works alongside the team on the production floor, with hands-on assembly and testing as its primary responsibility.

Work includes Windows-based computer setup and proprietary SpecMetrix software. Printed circuit board assembly, routine soldering, and software development are not normal requirements of this position.

Essential Assembly and Testing Functions

  • Assemble industrial electrical panels, back-panel assemblies, instrument control units (ICUs), subassemblies, and complete measurement systems from electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, bills of material, and work instructions.
  • Mount electrical and mechanical components; prepare conductors; and route, terminate, and label wires and cables, including point-to-point wiring.
  • Inspect wiring, component placement, connections, labels, and workmanship against the applicable drawings and quality requirements.
  • Set up Windows-based computers, peripherals, network connections, communication devices, and connected system hardware. Install and configure approved software, drivers, applications, and Windows settings.
  • Learn and independently operate proprietary SpecMetrix software to configure, calibrate, test, and validate systems.
  • Perform system startup, functional checks, calibration, acceptance testing, final inspection, and repeatability studies using approved procedures.
  • Troubleshoot wiring, components, communications, computers, software configuration, and system performance. Document findings and escalate unresolved issues to Engineering.
  • Transfer and record test data in Microsoft Excel and other approved applications. Maintain production, configuration, calibration, inspection, and nonconformance records.
  • Verify that tools and test equipment function properly and meet calibration requirements before use. Use hand tools, power tools, and production equipment safely.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Service, and Purchasing to resolve build issues. Request stock or replacement materials and maintain an organized work area.

Team Leadership Responsibilities

  • Translate approved production priorities into daily assignments, coordinate work within the assigned team, and complete personal assembly and testing assignments.
  • Train and cross-train technicians, demonstrate approved methods, check understanding, and document training progress and skill gaps.
  • Provide first-line technical support and review workmanship. Stop and escalate unsafe work or quality concerns through established procedures.
  • Monitor work status, material shortages, rework, and schedule risks; communicate issues and proposed solutions to the Operations Manager.
  • Support work instruction updates and process improvements with Engineering and Quality. Reinforce safe work practices, accurate documentation, and respectful teamwork.
  • Provide factual input on employee performance and promptly refer attendance, conduct, or employee concerns to the Operations Manager and HR. Formal hiring, discipline, evaluations, pay, and leave decisions remain with management.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • At least five years of relevant hands-on experience assembling, wiring, testing, or troubleshooting industrial equipment, electrical panels, control systems, or comparable technical systems.
  • At least one year of experience training, mentoring, or coordinating the work of other technicians; this may be included in the five years above.
  • Associate degree in a technical discipline or equivalent education and experience. Five years of relevant hands-on experience may substitute for the degree; technical education, military training, and apprenticeships are also considered.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, drawings, bills of material, and procedures; perform basic math; and safely use assembly tools and electrical test equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, software installation, hardware configuration, and Excel; ability to learn unfamiliar configuration, calibration, and testing applications.
  • Clear communication, accurate documentation, dependable attendance, attention to detail, and effective prioritization. Ability to give constructive feedback, adapt to change, and work independently and collaboratively.
