Job Overview
The Enterprise Quality – Production Manager leads the enterprise strategy for building quality into manufacturing processes and preventing defects at the source. This role partners with plant quality and operations leaders to stabilize processes, define and control critical product characteristics, strengthen process capability, and reduce product escapes. The Manager establishes common methods, priorities, and performance expectations across manufacturing sites while enabling local teams to solve problems and sustain measurable quality improvements.
Highlights of your role
Enterprise Production Quality Strategy & Governance
- Develop and deploy a consistent enterprise production quality strategy centered on quality at the source, defect prevention, and process control
- Establish common standards, governance, metrics, and review routines that improve manufacturing quality performance across all plants
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Quality Engineers supporting enterprise and plant priorities
- Build capability in process control, layered audits, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and structured problem-solving
- Create a culture of ownership in which quality is built into the process and sustained by production teams
Plant Partnership & Cross-Functional Integration
- Partner with plant Quality, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Continuous Improvement, and Supply Chain leaders to address the highest-priority quality risks
- Translate enterprise quality expectations into practical shop-floor controls, standard work, and accountability
- Facilitate cross-site alignment, sharing of best practices, and rapid replication of proven countermeasures
- Communicate production quality priorities and plant capability concerns to the Pre-Production Quality Manager for future product launches and refreshes
Critical Characteristics & Process Control
- Partner with Engineering and plant teams to define critical product and process characteristics and implement dimensional control plans
- Ensure effective in-process checks, reaction plans, control-plan adherence, and measurement-system discipline are established and sustained
Process Stabilization & Quality Assurance
- Lead deployment and disciplined execution of core production quality controls, including:
- Dimensional control plans and in-process part checks
- Layered process audits and control-plan audits
- Process capability assessments and reaction plans
- Containment, corrective action, and verification of sustained effectiveness
- Identify systemic gaps and coordinate enterprise countermeasures that reduce variation and prevent recurrence
Problem-Solving & Escape Reduction
- Reduce product escapes through process stabilization, effective containment, and permanent corrective action
- Promote a defined enterprise problem-solving toolbox, including 5 Whys, fishbone analysis, A3 thinking, and small-group problem-solving
Enterprise Feedback & Escalation
- Receive and prioritize plant-escape issues from the Post-Production Quality Manager and coordinate timely containment and root-cause resolution with the responsible sites
- Escalate product-design and process-capability gaps to Pre-Production Quality and Engineering for product or process improvement
- Maintain clear ownership, action tracking, and closure verification for enterprise production quality issues
Performance Management & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and review enterprise production quality metrics, including first-pass yield, defects, escapes, process capability, audit effectiveness, and cost of poor quality
- Use performance data to identify trends, prioritize resources, and launch targeted improvement efforts
- Verify that corrective actions and quality gains are sustained through standard work, audits, capability monitoring, and leadership review
You're a good fit if you have (or if you can)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Quality Management, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing quality, operations, engineering, or continuous improvement
- Demonstrated experience improving quality performance in a multi-site manufacturing environment
- Strong working knowledge of quality management systems, process control, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and process capability
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing plant leaders without direct authority
- Proven ability to translate data into priorities, actions, and sustained operational results
- Willingness to travel regularly to manufacturing sites to support assessments, problem-solving, implementation, and leadership alignment; travel will vary based on business needs
Also want to make sure you have
- Advanced knowledge of statistical process control, measurement systems, control plans, layered process audits, and process capability methods
- Lean, Six Sigma, ASQ, or related quality certification
- Experience deploying common quality standards and metrics across multiple manufacturing locations
- Strong facilitation, coaching, strategic thinking, and executive communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead enterprise change while enabling site ownership and accountability
