Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Propulsion Systems located in Clearfield, UT, is seeking a Manager 1 to lead a Tooling Engineering Team.
This position will have responsibility in leading a team of 10 to 12 employees in tooling designer and tooling planner roles. This role is responsible for meeting the technical and safety solutions for tooling for all programs at our Clearfield location. The qualified candidate must be able to lead a group to effectively meet tool requirements for safety, quality, functionality, and manufacturability as well as the program requirements for cost and schedule. Organizational and multi-tasking skills are strongly needed.
Tooling Engineering Design Manager Responsibilities:
- Drive technical excellence by ensuring department meets technical standards.
- Set role and performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback and performance appraisals.
- Develop and mentor team members.
- Provide overall leadership and direction to the department (to include coaching team members, resolving conflict, reviewing performance, and initiating corrective actions if necessary)
- Champion company values, especially safety.
- Drive timely and clearly communicated decisions and recommendations.
- Provide input for cost estimates for technical proposals.
- Oversee team's project labor budgets and schedule for assigned efforts.
- Resource planning and labor forecasting.
- Manage resources to support program schedules, balancing needs, priorities and cost.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience OR 4 additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree with a total of 9.
- 5+ years’ experience in technical engineering environment
- 1 - 3 years of supervisory, leading, or managerial experience
- Must have good communication and technical presentation skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and experience in resolving complex technical issues (product and processing equipment).
- Knowledge of designing for manufacturability.
- Knowledge of configuration management and PLM software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Prior leadership experience in a technical environment.
- Project management experience including responsibility for technical design, budget and schedule.
- Experience designing composite tooling, fixtures, and equipment.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing, and mentoring/coaching others in rapid problem solving and improvement.
- Highly motivated self-starter.
