The role

Northeastern University London invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Computer Science. The appointee will be teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and provide service to the discipline in line with the evolving needs and aspirations of the Faculty and University. Appointments will be commensurate with experience and qualifications reflecting a record of demonstrated teaching and service excellence.

Core duties will include development and provision of innovative and inclusive teaching in relevant areas of Computer Science at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and professional service commensurate to career stage. Preference may be given to candidates with active interests in software engineering.

Candidates will be considered across all areas of Computer Science. We are especially seeking exceptional educators whose teaching contributes to fundamental undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computer Science including but not limited to:

  • Software Engineering
  • Machine Learning
  • Python Programming

Opportunities for disciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship abound: the Faculty of Computing, Mathematics, Engineering, and Natural Sciences (CoMENS)’s grounding in humanics brings together computing, engineering and natural sciences with humanities based on ground-breaking research and research-oriented teaching practices. While this position is primarily focused on Teaching & Scholarship, we are supportive of candidates whose research demonstrably contributes to the faculty’s priority areas (namely, next-generation software, foundations of AI, and human-centred AI).

About the Faculty

The Faculty of Computing, Mathematics, Engineering, and Natural Sciences (CoMENS) is undergoing significant growth at Northeastern University London. It is home to four interdisciplinary undergraduate dual-degree (in UK and US) programmes in the areas of Data Science, Data Science and Politics, Computer Science and Business, and Computer Science and Philosophy; four postgraduate programs in the areas of AI Ethics, Data Science, Computer Science, and Technology Leadership; and five degree apprenticeship programmes in the areas of AI, Data Science, Digital and Technology Solutions, and Biosciences.

The CoMENS Faculty plays a major part in Northeastern University’s global experience program, offering undergraduate courses in Computer and Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Healthcare, striving to inspire and equip entering students to be outstanding scientists.

Person Specification Criteria

To undertake this role, the following should apply—should you not have the experience below, please do highlight where transferable skills would assist with you undertaking the role. Unless specified, all criteria are considered essential.

Qualifications

  • PhD completed, or near completion (all but dissertation), or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area
  • FHEA status, or equivalent, achieved or expected (desirable)

Key Criteria

  • Demonstrates, through evidence, excellent ability to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in the role as advertised with regards to teaching and service
  • Willingness and capacity to undertake continuous professional development in relation to institutionally strategic themes, including but not limited to technology, data, sustainability, and ethics
  • Ability to develop excellent educational provision in areas with significant appeal to students, including at postgraduate level, and with a focus on experiential learning
  • Flexibility and capacity to teach across a wide range of courses, where appropriate in collaboration with specialists from other disciplines
  • Teaching competency in Computer Science to Levels 4–7 (i.e., both undergraduate and postgraduate levels)
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills, both face-to-face and online
  • Excellent IT skills and evidence of supporting the integration of technologies into learning and teaching
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills
