POSITION:        LOWER SCHOOL MAKER AND INNOVATION SPECIALIST (Part-Time)


REPORTS TO:   LOWER SCHOOL PRINCIPAL


The Lower School Maker and Innovation Specialist teaches a series of classes that integrate technology skills, design thinking, making, coding, and robotics into each grade level curriculum. As a member of the Lower School faculty, this individual will also support other aspects of instruction and supervision throughout the day.


St. Matthew’s Parish School is a technology-rich and highly collaborative environment with two well-developed Makerspaces: PIRL (Project Idea Realization Lab) and PIRL Terrace. The ideal candidate will be an innovative teacher who is passionate about integrating technology, design thinking, making, coding, and robotics into instruction; effective at communicating with adults and children; collaborative; organized; and motivated to learn about current and evolving practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, plan, and teach engaging technology, coding, robotics, design thinking, and Maker skills to students in Kindergarten–2nd Grade
  • Collaborate with grade-level teachers from Early Childhood–2nd Grade and the Lower School Principal to establish curriculum, introduce new ideas, integrate with core curriculum, and support established projects
  • Serve as a member of the Lower School faculty, providing instruction, support, and supervision throughout the day
  • Prepare and deliver lessons synchronously and asynchronously, as needed.
  • Partner with the Grade 3-8 Maker and Innovation Specialist to organize and manage the school Makerspaces
  • Work collegially and collaboratively with faculty
  • Foster a culture of independent use of technology throughout the school
  • Perform any other duties needed or assigned to help drive our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our Organization’s Values

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Teaching Credential (desirable)
  • High proficiency with computer hardware and software in an Apple (macOS & iOS) environment (Apple Productivity Suite, Google Apps for Education, Scratch)
  • Knowledge and experience with the Maker movement and motivation to learn more about Maker spaces and practices
  • Understanding of and experience with Design Thinking
  • Experience with coding and robotics systems, microcontrollers, and software (BeeBots, Dash, Scratch Jr., Scratch, Micro:bit, Hummingbird)
  • Experience with digital fabrication (3D printing and laser cutting)
  • Curiosity and ability to quickly learn new software and Maker skills.
  • Experience working with lower elementary-aged children
  • Experience developing and delivering curriculum
  • Classroom management skills necessary to ensure a safe, productive, and positive environment
  • Ability to work effectively, communicate, and collaborate in a team situation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and able to multitask and effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is an exempt position. Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes, but is not limited to, medical, dental, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, and retirement plan (up to a 9% match).


COMPENSATION

$40,000 TO $55,000 (.5 FTE)
