SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Performs a wide range of duties involved with preparing and/or packaging foods and beverages in commissary kitchen. May perform such duties as preparing salad items, hot foods, and/or cold foods, and/or assisting in the preparation of bakery items, as appropriate to the position. Assist in cleaning work areas, equipment, utensils. May assist in the set up, and tear down; and collection of garbage/trash; as appropriate to the area of operation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of hot and cold meat and vegetable dishes, beverages, salads, sandwiches, pie fillings, simple bakery items, salad dressings, and/or other similar food items, as appropriate to the position.
- Follows prescribed procedures in setting up hot and cold food lines; chooses proper utensils and sets steam line to appropriate temperature for menu items.
- Assists with food preparation as directed, operating food production equipment as required to complete tasks.
- Follows all safety and sanitation guidelines and regulations to ensure quality food service.
- Attends to day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies; detects and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions.
- Assist with any and all mission work as needed and requested with some or no prior notice including, but not limited to: serving as a truck spotter, helping with Farm Market/Community Garden/Freight Farms/on and off-site food distributions, preparation of meals and serving home-delivered meals
- Other duties as so assigned or needed.

- Good verbal communication skills.

- Prolonged periods walking or standing.
- Considerable physical activity – must be able to lift, carry, and place up to 60 pounds at a time.
- Ability to work in hot or cold conditions for long periods of time;
- Ability to tolerate sudden and extreme changes in temperature;
- Ability to work with all food types, including but not limited to gluten, dairy, and raw proteins, including pork; and
- Must be able to work in a hot and damp environment.
