Position SummaryThe Tool Room Attendant supports construction operations by managing, tracking, and maintaining tools, equipment, hardware, consumables, and materials used in the field. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate inventory control, efficient resource distribution, and proper documentation to support safe, productive, and continuous jobsite operations. The Tool Room Attendant works closely with field supervisors, foremen, vendors, and project personnel to maintain inventory accuracy and tool room organization in a fast-paced construction environment.Roles and ResponsibilitiesManage inventory of tools, hardware, consumables, materials, and equipment.Receive deliveries and verify quantities against packing slips, purchase orders, and delivery documentation.Organize, maintain, and file incoming delivery paperwork and inventory records.Issue, track, and document outgoing tools, materials, equipment, and orders to field personnel and foremen.Maintain accurate inventory, tool assignment, and order-tracking records using company systems.Monitor inventory levels and report shortages, damaged items, lost tools, or replacement needs.Conduct routine inventory counts and reconciliation activities to ensure record accuracy.Inspect incoming tools, equipment, and materials for damage or discrepancies.Maintain an organized, clean, secure, and efficient tool room environment.Assist with stocking, labeling, organizing, and storing inventory items.Coordinate with purchasing and project teams regarding material requests and inventory needs.Support project operations by identifying and communicating material availability and constraints.Ensure proper storage and handling of tools, equipment, and consumable items.Follow all safety procedures, site rules, and company policies.Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and required site orientations.Perform other inventory control and warehouse support duties as assigned.Qualifications and ExperienceRequiredHigh school diploma or GED preferred.Ability to work in a construction, warehouse, or industrial environment.Ability to maintain accurate records and inventory documentation.Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel or similar tracking software.Ability to follow established procedures and work independently within assigned responsibilities.PreferredPrevious experience in tool room operations, warehouse operations, inventory control, or construction support.Experience using Excel, Smartsheet, inventory management software, or similar tracking systems.General knowledge of construction tools, equipment, and materials.Experience supporting construction or industrial projects.SkillsGeneral knowledge of construction tools and their proper applications.General knowledge of hardware types, sizes, grades, and material specifications.Ability to read measurements and verify material dimensions.Strong organizational and inventory management skills.High attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple requests.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Proficiency with Excel, Smartsheet, and related tracking software.Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.Core CompetenciesSafety AwarenessAccountabilityOrganization & PlanningAttention to DetailReliability & AttendanceTeamworkCommunicationProblem SolvingPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.Ability to occasionally lift heavier items with assistance or mechanical equipment.Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, squat, and reach while organizing inventory and materials.Ability to perform repetitive handling, sorting, stocking, and inventory tasks.Ability to climb ladders and access storage racks or elevated storage areas when required.Ability to operate in active construction, warehouse, and industrial environments.Ability to use hands and arms for handling tools, equipment, inventory, and documentation.Ability to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and other site-specific equipment.Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.Ability to maintain focus and accuracy while managing inventory records and material distribution activities.Safety Sensitive PositionThis position is designated as safety-sensitive in accordance with Arizona law (A.R.S. § 23-493(9)).Employees in this role are responsible for managing and distributing tools, equipment, materials, and consumables used in active construction operations. Errors involving inventory control, equipment issuance, material verification, or documentation can create safety hazards, operational disruptions, and potential risks to personnel.Employees must be able to perform all essential job functions without impairment from substances that could affect safety, alertness, judgment, accuracy, or decision-making. Maintaining attention to detail, situational awareness, and compliance with safety procedures is required at all times.Essential Job FunctionsTool Room Attendants perform inventory control and operational support functions in active construction environments requiring attention to detail, organizational skills, and adherence to safety procedures.Essential job functions include:Managing inventory of tools, hardware, consumables, materials, and equipment.Receiving and verifying deliveries against purchase orders, packing slips, and project requirements.Maintaining accurate inventory, issuance, and order-tracking records.Issuing, tracking, and documenting tools, materials, and equipment distributed to field personnel.Conducting routine inventory counts and reconciliation activities.Monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages, damaged items, or replacement requirements.Organizing, storing, labeling, and maintaining inventory in a clean and orderly manner.Inspecting tools and equipment for condition, accountability, and readiness for use.Maintaining delivery, inventory, and tracking documentation using computerized systems and spreadsheets.Supporting field operations by coordinating material availability and inventory requests.Communicating inventory needs, discrepancies, and operational concerns to supervisors and project personnel.Following verbal and written instructions, inventory procedures, and company policies.Maintaining situational awareness in active construction and material-handling environments.Supporting project productivity while adhering to safety, quality, and accountability standards.Work is performed in construction, warehouse, and industrial environments, with exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, vibration, and changing weather conditions.Employees must be able to maintain fitness for duty at all times to support jobsite safety, inventory accountability, operational efficiency, and project success.
